Todder very clingy

I have a two year old who is so clingy at the moment. If I even go to the toilet, she starts crying and saying "Mummy gone away". She has to be with me all the time. Is this just a phase and should I just keep reassuring her that I am still there? I have tried to ignore it but it is not working. She has had any major upsets recently so I am not sure what has caused it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm sure its just a phase. Enjoy it when she is a teenager she won't want you around at all.

My daughter is 22 mths and really clingly. My son showed what I would consider to be normal seperation anxiety but she is on a whole different level. Even if I am in the same room as her but not holding her she screams hysterically. I have at various stages, tried ignoring her (1 hr later no let up, holding her (impossible to do anything else), distraction (rarely works) and it is now a REAL issue. I go to work 3 days a week and she is mostly v sociable with strangers. She is incredibly loving to me and my mother (who looks after her whilst I am at work) but shows this behaviour off and on with both of us BUT it isnt consistent. V confused, afraid I haven't any advice but just lots of sympathy.
