Struggling with 6 week old

She's my second, you'd think I'd know what to do by now. Basically she screams (like really screams) before every sleep. I try nursing her, bouncing her, patting her, shhhing her, swaddling her, white noise, and any combination of the above. But alot of them seem to make her scream even more.

I try putting her down after the first yawn everytime, but nothing seems to work. She doesn't suck her thumb or take a dummy, so can't fall back on either of those.

I don't think she has reflux or anything, she's really happy when she's awake, or lying on her back. And generally sleeps well at night.

I end up having to go on long walks with her screaming in the sling, until she eventually knackers herself out. She won't sleep in the pram either (just stares up, wide awake the whole time). The problem is i have a toddler, so the long walks aren't always practical. Also, it's upsetting seeing her go so crazy.

Any advice? Should I try putting her down even earlier? Or even just keep her up longer than the advised awake times?

Bless you. I think the best thing to do is be relaxed around her. Not easy when their screaming I know! Personally I'm not strict on sleep times and have found my baby will sleep when they need to. I tried sticking to a schedule and it just wasn't happening but a few weeks later my baby had made their own schedule which they have kept to since 12 weeks old.

Thank you! That's what i was thinking, but everything you read says don't keep them awake for too long or they'll be overtired. If she's yawning does that not mean i need to try and get her to sleep? I was crying with her earlier on!

I've stopped following books etc as I can't see how they can relate to all children as everyone is different. I think it's just a case of trying out different things. My ds is a bit older but will happily sleep in his bouncer chair but I think at the age of you lo it's just a case of letting them sleep anywhere they can . I'm sure they will settle into something soon. It's so tough especially with a toddler too as you can't just go out like you said for a long walk. It will get better
