Toddler Tantrums - start overnight and this young?

DD is 15 months and has turned from a spirited but pretty easygoing toddler into the devil child overnight! Is this possible and do they start this young?

Today - tantrums every time i try to pick her up/carry her, change a nappy, get her dressed, read her the wrong book ...you name it. Its like a lightbulb has come on in her head and she is determined to do the opposite of everything. I thought that was what the terrible 2's were?

ds is 16 months and in the course of about a week has become very stroppy at times. Has started hitting me, dd, dh, writhing around on ground and so on.
Don't recall dd doing this, but suspect that she was less frustrated as she had full-beam attention all the time whereas ds gets left to amuse himself far too often for my liking.

Yes - DD2 has been having full blown tantrums since she was about 14 months. She likes to bang her head on the floor really hard
Someone told me the terrible twos last from age 1 to age 3. Sorry if this is not good news!
