Hi guys,
Just want too know when the earliest you started weaning was??? My little boy is nearly 14 weeks old and seems to be putting EVERYTHING in his mouth and chomping down on his fingers I spoke to my HV and she said she would advise waiting til he's 4-6 months but it's completely up too me?
Just wondering does it have any long term Health effects , would it harm him to have some baby rice??
Any advice appreciated Grin

I'm sure people with more knowledge will come soon but basically, a few things:

  • babies before 4 months are not ready to digest anything apart from milk, gut / flora wise, they're just not ready yet
  • WHO recommends 6 months, they've probably done their job researching it properly
  • putting everything in their mouth is a development thing, that's how they sense the world at that age, not a proof they want to eat
  • before 5,5/6 months, you have to puree everything and it's such a hassle... Much easier just to wait for them to be able to eat same thing as you.

So basically, wait, it would only please you.

putting things in his mouth and chewing his fingers is indicative of his teeth moving about in his gums in preparation for eruption, not hunger, and all babies do this.

6 months is the recommended age for weaning, so holding outa while longer would be best for your little boy Smile
