At what age could your dc do up zips?

just interested really. Can your dc do this all on their own and from what age? Thanx

Do you mean just pull the zipper up and down? Or slot it into other side of it in first place?

dd has been able to do the former for ages and ages, and she's nearly 3. But she can't quite manage starting it off - almost, but not quite.

DS is 4.3 and he can't do his zip.

DD is 4y7m and can do up (and undo) zips, inc slotting in at the start. Been able to it a while I think, but not sure from when.

DS1 (who has some vaguely dyspraxic symptoms and is a bit slow at this sort of thing) was nearly 7. DS2 did it last winter, so 4 and a few months.

My ds is nearly 5 and can do it sometimes but usually struggles whereas my dd has been doing her own zips since 2.9. All kids are different. Ds is just lazy and would let you dress him if you let him.

DS started nursery at 3.5 and they taught him how to do the zip quite soon after he started. But, even though he knows how to do it, he won't! I'm lucky if he wears his coat, let alone does it up.

DD1 is 3.5 and has just learnt to do it. It helped that she has a Thomas Tank Engine zip decoration which clips onto her zip, as that gave her an incentive to do it for herself.

Dh came home from work and pinched the computer. Only just managed to kick him off.

Thanx for all your replies. I did mean slot the zip in and do it up all by themselves.

The reason I ask is that I have a 3.3 year old and a 4.5 year old. I have shown my older dd how to do her zip up and she struggles with it a bit, sometimes she can, sometimes she cant.

However, my 3.3 year old has started doing it all by herself and I havent even shown her. I thought it was a fluke at first but she has done it loads. And she seem to have to think about it at all.

Was just trying to decide whether DD1 was a bit behind (I hate saying that), or DD2 was just quick on the up take.
