Afternoon crying.. And a baby that won't nap!

7 week old happy baby who sleeps well at night. With decent bed time routine.
He does, however, refuse to nap in the day and because of this can be grouchy As soon as signs of tiredness arise I try and get him down but he is so so strong willed. He kicks and punches or try's to fix on something to stimulate him. and tends to cry till he falls asleep anytime between 4oclock and 7, later if he doesn't go down. Have tried everything going. Is it colic? Purple crying? Personality? Have tried putting him in Moses basket when he starts to yawn but he'll either lie there happily for ages and get more awake or hell scream the house down. Have occasionally been successful and he's slept but not for long. It's not to big a deal as sleeping at night is great but his father works away from home so when I'm on my own (99% of the time) it can make for a really long day, hard on my own.
I know I'm lucky that he sleeps at night.
Have tried everything I can read or think of to no avail.
Any suggestions???

At that age I'd be expecting him to go to sleep an hour after he wakes up. Will he feed to sleep?

The morning nap isn't so bad, he'll sometimes go on his own but not often. He won't feed tosleep in the day.
He'll fall asleep on my chest but after a spell of crying.

He's 7 weeks old! Google the 4th trimester - he's not meant to sleep alone. Honestly, just let him nap on you if that's what he wants.

I always do. Him napping on me isn't really the problem. As I said its that he doesn't really nap or want to and gets over tired.

I have an 11 week old like that! If I miss 'the window' (between 1 and 2 hours of being awake) my strategies are walking around with her in the sling then taking the sling off with her in it and placing her still inside the sling into her Moses basket or taking her for a drive and then bringing her inside in her car seat and letting her continue her nap in that. sometimes a dummy works or I feed her to sleep. I tend to mix things up in the hope that she won't get reliant on any one thing.

My DS was like that! People didn't believe me when I said he did not sleep during the day. I had friends who would just pop their babies into the pram/Moses basket and off they would go to sleep and there was me walking for hours each day to get him to nap and as soon as I stopped the pram - bang, wide awake!

We resolved to walking for hours every day. Only when he was super tired would he feed to sleep during the day. Talk about active.

Now at 9 months he's still a nightmare to get to sleep during the day, he's so alert and wants to watch everything going on around him. I do think it's good now as he seems quite intelligent but it is so tough.

Good luck!
