My ds still sucks his thumb and to be honest I did at his age too, but his teeth are already sticking out of shape. we are unsure how to get him to stop. what has worked for you? thanks

the stop bite - nail stuff you paint on, but I would paint it on both thumbs as sometimes kids swap thumbs! My DD was a thumb sucker and it put all her teeth out of line. I so wish I had persevered with a dummy, but she just pulled it out and stuck her thumb in!

now, at 9 she is no longer a thumb sucker, but it took 2 years of painting that stuff on sporadically once she initially stopped sucking her thumb. Her teeth are out of line, but nowhere near as bad as they were 2 yrs ago. Chances are she will need braces

We combatted it with a willing 8 year old by rolling a flannel tight like a splint and putting it in the inner crack of her elbow positioning with surgical tape, - this worked a bit but bestest was to tape the thumb and finger next to it together.

Maybe a discussion about it being a bit 'baby-ish' and getting her to own the process of stopping it? Maybe have a secret word you can use to remind her to stop, especially when you're out? Also, get her to have a discussion with your dentist. It will be hard to get her to stop it unless she really wants to :)

Whatever you do, persevere and do it religiously. My parents tried to get me to stop but it was very hit and miss and I still suck it now Blush
Luckily my teeth are fine but it's a hard hard habit to break doubt I'll ever quit

goodgrief54..don't do the braces! Our doctor gave us these gloves called the Glovey Huggey and they worked great for our son. Here is there site if you can't find them on google endthumbsucking.com
