constipated baby

My dd is a year and seems to be very constipated. She has been like this for a week now. Basically she passes a small amount of poo, not rabbit poo, about 4 or 5 times a day. She tends to cry with pain when the poo comes out.

I have gradually been moving her onto bottles but she still has 2 bf per day. She is blw but eats very little.

I am offering apple juice and she has had some. Any other tips? Have had a constipated baby before but they didn't poo at all so the regular little bits of poo are a bit odd.

not an expert but wanted to put something as i could see no one else had replied.

i maybe wrong but i think bottle feeding can lead to babies getting blocked up the change in the milk iygwim

what about just plain water as that will help. or some orange juice with water, prune juice etc

also if you are bf what you eat should go through to the milk so maybe increase your uptake of juice or other foods prunes.

sorry not much help but wanted to write something

Thanks Mammy. It's the regular little bits of poo that are a bit odd. Will keep going with the fruit juice.

Could your dd be suffering from dehydration? Dry, difficult poos would be a sign I think; they were in my DS. Does she have alot of wet nappies? I know this is pointing out the bleeding obvious, but just in case you are very sleep deprived, are you definitely adding the right amount of water to the formula powder? Not enough causes dehydration and constipation. Sorry to mention something so basic. Did the problem start when you started to move over to FFing? If nothing obvious is the matter, I would take her to your GP or at least speak to the health visitor first.

Thanks fierce. I was worried she might be dehydrated as nappies not hugely heavy. Then she weed all over me yesterday and that was clear.

Will Dr appointment today as worried that there is a blockage.
