six month old, leg problem?

My six month old doesn't push down with his legs AT ALL! They just crumple under him when I hold him up on my lap. Do you think I should be concerned. My other kids were pushing down on legs practically from the start!
I'm going to check with HV anyway, just wondered what mner's thought. thanks.

Bearing in mind that all babies develop at different rates, I'm sure there is nothing to worry about. But if you are worried, do talk to your HV about weight bearing. It could be that he simply can't be bothered :)

Yes, talk to the HV. I think whether they're weight-bearing is assessed at the 9m review so it may not be considered a problem till then. Has he had his hips checked since he was born.

I have the same problem with my 9 month old. Asked the HV about it yesterday and was told that this is entirely normal. I think that it's more that she can't be bothered TBH.

Thanks for replies.
Just to update, I asked the HV, and she said probably ok, not to worry until 8 months. But later she phoned and said she had discussed it with the GP and it was best to make an appt to get ds hips checked. I know they were checked at him six week check, but it was SO stressful that day, baby and toddler crying and it was very rushed.
DS has got quite strange legs, he sleeps like a little frog with his legs at right angles and knees on the mattress.
Of course I am worrying more now.

DD (6 months) has had her hips checked quite often as she was breech and they are fine ... but she also sleeps like a little frog!

My 24 week old DD cannot support her own weight on her legs. Google told me that it usually happens before 7 mo. I will ask my HV today about it too and let you know what she says.

My baby is very chunky though, I feel it must be hard to support your own weight when you weigh over 20lb at this age!

My HV is going to check on my DD in 2 weeks although she told me not to worry. She said its something they check at the 8 m review. Guessing from her reaction its normal to be able to do it by 6 mo but not a cause for concern quite yet. She gave me the all babies are different speech.
