8 month old DD refusing food

My 8 month old DD has refused pretty much all food today - she's had a small rice cake, two mouthfuls of spag bol and half a fromage frais. She's not off breastmilk - if anything she's had more of this than normal.

Last week she'd have polished off a large bowl of porridge, mid morning snack, bowl of spag bol, 2 fromage frais and some fruit by now.

She's had her first (and only) tooth for ten days now. She's mastered cruising and is trying to walk and is making more sounds than last week.

Is this food refusal likely to be related to her teeth or something else? Is the best thing to keep offering food and milk and let her take what she wants - presumably she won't starve herself.

It could be related to her teeth - could also be related to the heat (not sure where you are but very hot for us today and DS2 is also not eating much).

I find that babies and toddlers have hungry days and not so hungry days and the best thing is just to go with it - offer the meal, if they eat it they eat it, if they don't, don't worry Smile You will probably find she makes up for it another time!

The one thing I'd say is to try and make sure she drinks enough, but you say she's not off her milk so I'd say you have nothing to worry about. She absolutely won't starve herself.

Neither of my two much interested in food today but DS feeding more than usual - I think it's the heat. I agree - she won't starve herself!

Mother of 4,trust me your dd will not starve,my eldest went a year on milk & beetroot. In this heat most babies will not want that much so as long as you offer milk, water on a regular basis then if they say no to food they will be fine.Us big people have hungrier days than others & dd is just a little big person.

Thanks ladies.

DD refused most of her dinner, but took milk. She woke in the night for more milk, and ate one and a half portions of porridge for breakfast. She's definitely not dehydrated - we've had plenty of wet nappies and drool :)

Having exactly the same with my DS, also 8 months. I suspect it's his teeth as he's also very irritable (not like him) and keeps pulling his ear. He hasn't had any through yet, but he's drooling a lot. I'm trying to get him an appointment at the doctor just to rule out an ear infection.
