How do you help a huge headed child dress themsleves?

DS1 (now 3.6) has a huge head. nothing medical, and no signs of anything it might be an indication for, so no worries, but basically huge (when he had a 3-year check up he has a head on the 95th percentile, and body length and mass on the 25th).

Finding clothes to fit him is a total nightmare-he is still basically in size 2-3 years, but we have to buy small adult sun hats. Buying clothes he can get over his head is a struggle-even if they unbutton the smallest that won't really tug is about 5-6, which swamps him. We can get stuff that fits otherwise on him, and off with some difficulty, but we really need to pull and tug-he's calm and patient, but it obviously really stops him dressing himself.

Anyway, we're out of ideas. There are ways around it in terms of altering clothing-button up shirts, maybe fitting press studs, but we just can't get standard stuff to work. Which is also OK, although limiting. Next term, though, he starts school and the uniform is T-shirts and sweatshirts, and where he will obviously need to dress himself.

Any advice?

Sorry, 3.9, clearly-he goes to school at 4 and 3 days. But he still has a monstrous heed.

My DS also has a massive head. He's been on the 95th centile for head size and height since birth, and is still only around 50th centile for weight (at 14 months). I just had to buy him an age 2-3 sunhat in Mothercare! He's in 18-24 month T-shirts but we still have to tug them on (which he hates) as they mostly don't have poppers on them at that age...

For school, would polo shirts (with the two or three buttons at the front) work OK? Does it have to be a sweatshirt, or could he wear a v-neck jumper with the school badge? (I'm thinking that might be easier to put on...). Might be worth asking the school - at such a young age, he probably wouldn't get teased or anything for looking slightly different, and maybe the rest of him will catch up to his head before long?

Hi there,
Also have 2 children both with HUGE heads. They are 2.5 and 4.5. The 2.5 year old I still dress, although increasingly she wants to do it herself so for both children we do the same thing- make sure the clothes are plenty big enough in the first place (maybe one size bigger than might "just" fit) and then I yank the head bit to stretch it before I give it to them. If you yank it a few times it gets bigger (!)- not noticeable to naked eye.

Is he starting reception in September or nursery at school? My son is just finishing nursery and going into reception. They don't really have to dress themselves at nursery and reception it's just a case of pe kit I think.
