My daughter is 8 and the 2nd of 4 children. She seems to have an attention/memory issue. As a young child I was often struck by the clever things she said and she was way ahead of her older brother when he was her age. Since joining the juniors she has made little progress at school. She makes little effort and does the bear minimum. At home I have to repeat things several times before she does them. She isn't misbehaving just either doesn't remember what I've said or compute it!!! Has anyone else had this and used any strategies to improve memory/attention.HELP!!!!

How is her sleeping and eating? Does she get enough sleep at night and plenty of good food and water? Obvious maybe but it often is the basic things...

How is her hearing? Has she an ear infection? Does she sleep well?

When you say she has a memory issue - does that relate to times tables etc, knowing right from left etc. If so she may be dyslexic?

My son has a habbit of zoneing out. I have to make sure he is giving me his full attention b4 giving instructions. That might mean standing in the way of the telly, putting my hand over his book and being close but always maintaining eye contact.

Sometimes i think his hearing is selective and he chooses not to listen. I've got firmer recently by turning the TV off or taking his book away if he ignores me. I do it calmly and fairly. This has improved things actually.

Sky blue - that may be the problem for me, my DS also hones in on things, and I've turned TV off before.
