Nightmares? Or just toddlerdom?!

Hi. I am a bit worried about my DS and wondered if anyone could give any advice or reassurance?

He is 19 mo and has been a fairly good sleeper since a year old, ie 7-7. In the past fortnight he has started waking at about 1am absolutely screaming his heart out - this will last from 15 mins up to 30 mins, then will start again at about 4am and then again at 6am.

Can kids this age have nightmares? Or could it be something else? He is a good eater but I am worried that I am missing something. He may be 19 mo but has no words at all, other than Mamma (which is everything and everyone).

He is generally very happy when awake but communicates only in grunts and, increasingly, with screams, whining and with the odd tantrum - increasing daily.

Any help or advice much appreciated.

It could be nightmares or terrors - DS had them from the first months - but you say this is new behaviour, so I really would get it checked out? Talk to the GP on monday?
