SORE TOE!

Can anyone help please?
My son is 2 years and 4 months and has got this thing about having a 'sore toe'!

It starts by him waking up in the middle of the night, crying his eyes out, very distressed and disorientated. All he can tell me is that he has a SORE TOE!

Sometimes I think it might be pins and needles...... can little kids get pins and needles?
Other times I think it's something he is making up as he doesn't know why he is awake and crying! Maybe it's both?

Has anyone experienced similar?
Should I take him to the doctor?

He normally sleeps like a log, from 8 till 8 and is a very easy going, good humoured little boy! So it's very alarming when he gets so distressed and seemingly in pain.

It might just be that he know's it will get your attention (I'm sure we had I've got a tummy ache a while back), as it's something you won't ignore, even if he's not meaning it in an attention grabbing way.

Can you try playing doctors or something and maybe rub some magic lotion on it or put a plaster on it at bedtime? Then if he wakes you can just say it's okay the lotion's still on it, or something.

If it really is hurting I'd have thought it would bother him much more. Does he sleep in a particularly funny position?

Funny you've posted about this as mh ds does it on occasions. He asks for a plaster and gets really upset if I refuse! Don't think it's anything serious as he never complains of if in the day, walks normally etc. I thought maybe growing pains? Or just something for attention?

Thanks Slipperthief and Roo83
Great advise, thank you so much.

It's a relief to know that other little boys get 'sore toe' sometimes too! I'll let you know how I get on as Dr Mummy, toe specialist!!
