A sister for Lucy.... Mina? What do you think? Please be truthful (but in a nice way!)

itchyandscratchy Mon 26-Oct-09 11:01:40

If your husband's name is Jonathan Harker, then might be OK.

I spose all things vampire are quite "in" at the moment, so it'd be your funeral grin

But some people might not question it as Lucy is a popular name anyway. I would think The Prince of Darkness immediately, but that's just me.

I have a swedish friend called Minna, it's a lovley name. I don't think of vampires, I've no idea what the connection is?

belgo Mon 26-Oct-09 11:06:16

I know a belgian Minne probably pronounced the same way as Mina. It's ok.

Prefer Minnie in english.

naughtystepforme Mon 26-Oct-09 11:06:17

Bugger, I was hoping no one would see the link! I told DH that we couldn't have it because of that but he said no one would put the two together.

BTW we're not 'into' vampires or anything weird, just really like the name.

belgo Mon 26-Oct-09 11:07:24

Also don't know the vampire connection.

If your like it, go for it.

naughtystepforme Mon 26-Oct-09 11:09:55

I'll have to show him your response Itchy and then we can try to think of something else.

HollyGoHeavily Mon 26-Oct-09 11:11:29

Sorry - the vampire link was the first thing that came to my mind as well. But then I do love the book and the Coppola film so perhaps I am not typical....

TheDevilEatsBabies Mon 26-Oct-09 11:12:54

i think Mina's a lovely name: very unusual.

i didn't think of the dracula connection and i loved that book.

Not keen myself.

Lucy and Mia is pretty though.

mwahahahamwahahahallyroger Mon 26-Oct-09 11:14:45

Yup, Prince of Darkness leapt out at me too!

chimchar Mon 26-Oct-09 11:18:22

i thought ozzy osbourne was the prince of darkness? wink

not into vampires either, so have no idea of the link.

love the name mina, but not sure if it goes well with lucy... sorry!

naughtystepforme Mon 26-Oct-09 11:21:46

ooh... I like Mia, maybe we could go for that?

chimchar Mon 26-Oct-09 11:27:20

oooh. lucy and mia are lovely together. smile

LetThereBeRock Mon 26-Oct-09 12:18:42

I don't really like Mina and the combination of the two immediately makes me think of Dracula

MRSwereWOOLFhasabroomofherown Mon 26-Oct-09 12:32:14

Of course Bram Stoker/Dracula is the only association I have. Is nice still.
I'd like it as a short form of Minerva too, not so fond of Wilhelmina.

jamandjerusalem Mon 26-Oct-09 12:37:33

I think it's good! I wouldn't worry too much, think you can overanalyse these things.

My brother and I both have names that could be boys or girls and even our own relatives would sometimes muddle them up. We didn't care. Care even less now that we're adults!

Oh, and Mina could be short for Philomena, too.

Iklboo Mon 26-Oct-09 12:39:43

First think I thought of was Dracula - but there's nothing wrong with that. Mia is lovely though

OrmIrian Mon 26-Oct-09 12:42:03

Very suitable for Halloween grin

I don't like Mina I have to say. Mia maybe?

JohnnyYellowHat Mon 26-Oct-09 12:43:05

I think Lucy and Mina go really nicely together, and wouldn't have associated them with Dracula. I prefer Mia though.

EightiesChick Mon 26-Oct-09 12:45:33

Dracula was my first thought too. I really think that while a lot of people won't pick up on it, enough will to make it unthinkable, I'm afraid.

Mia or Minnie would be nice alternatives.

For all those reading who don't know the connection, they're both characters in Dracula, friends, who are pursued by vampires. Mina survives but Lucy becomes a victim. Just not the associations you'd want I think!

bellissima Mon 26-Oct-09 15:03:16

Prefer Minna to Mina (does one pronounce latter Meena or Min- a?) but be warned - there are MNers on the back row who snigger at anything with 'min' or 'fan' in. (see also Albert etc...)

gingerbunny Mon 26-Oct-09 23:18:38

my friends is Minn a
