Looking potential names up on google/facebook?

We are currently going through the fun/agony of deciding on names for our boy/girl due in Jan.

Obviously the MN shortlist and the forum are great places to get ideas and opinions on possible names but does anyone else search the internet?

I have been typing in the possible names + surname into google and facebook to see what comes up. I have been really surprised that no matter how unusual you think your name and surname are there seems to be at least one other out there!

It's also quite interesting on facebook to see pictures of the other people and get an idea of how old they are - is the name 'trendy' or 'classic'.

Really, I guess I'm just nosy! So does anyone else do this or am I just sad/weird?!

i like the idea!
then you can see how "normal" your name is, or how unusual it is (ie not every other child in the world has the same name!)

Hadn't thought about that! Just been on to Google and typed in the name that I'm thinking of (even though dh hasn't agreed yet, lol) and loads of things come up! But nothing outrageous or awful so not really put off!!

I've just searched for both my own and my daughters name on facebook, and... we are both truly unique! well on facebook anyway.

Yes I did that. Google, facebook, friends reunited at the time actually, plus www.yournotme.com or .co.uk?

There are no others out there with the exact combo of first name+sur name (mychildren's names that is).

My name, there are millions.

I googled DD's name and she's the only one. Her first name is quite popular in the UK but there are only 3 of us with our surname. There are lots with our surname in the US and Canada but DD's name is not popular there.

I googled possible names before DD was born just to check there wasn't a serial killer that I'd never heard of with the same name

My name is unique on facebook - and the name we've chosen for DS only returns one person - a Laird - so we'll chance it.
