Baby Name Shortlist - Opinions please!!

Hi All - we already have 1 DS named Archie, surname is MacGregor (Scottish DH) - I wanted a more English feel for a name for my DC2 so here is our current shortlist;

Mia
Millie
Aimee
Emma
Elsa (DH not keen on this one but is a family name on my side and I love it)

James (Jamie)
Samuel
Freddie
Jacob
Edward (not keen on Ed or Ted for a short name though)
Ewan (although unfortunately will be associated with the actor)

Do you think 2 DC names ending in 'IE'is too much?

The 'ie' endings are not a problem for me. I'd avoid Ewan at all cost due to the actor connection. Samuel and Freddie are my faves, along with Elsa and Emma. Millie is nice too, not keen on Aimee.

I love Elsa too and we have a strong family history with that name.

Right - agreed Ewan off the list.

What other names can Edward be shortened to if not Ed or Ted? If only Ed or Ted then I'll avoid that also.

DH's fave is Emma and his boy fave is Edward. I think I'm swaying to Elsa and Samuel......

I like Edward a lot, but I dislike all its shortenings - Eddie (makes me think of the Guardian Living With Teenagers boy), Ed or Ted. Shame.

How about using the 'y' spellings of Amy and Milly, as an alternative? I like both spelt that way. Don't like the Aimee spelling so would rule that out.

Elsa wouldn't be my choice but it is a nice name and unusual. Emma is also nice. Don't like Mia.

James/Jamie is always good, and underrated as a first name rather than a middle name. Ewan has to be a no no with your surname, unfortunately.

Millie - not so keen, but sounds okay
Aimee - too many Ms when alongside your surname, it's a bit awkward to pronounce

Samuel - likewise, although I do love this name
Freddie - it's alright
Jacob - lovely
Edward (not keen on Ed or Ted for a short name though) - I prefer Edmund, but Edward is nice too. Shortens to Ned?
Ewan (although unfortunately will be associated with the actor) - everyone will think you named him after the actor, which will probably be v annoying!

Not fussed on the spelling so happy with Amy and Milly also.
No-one seems to sway towards Mia then? I know would be a mouthful with the surname..

I think, realistically, my DH would never go for Elsa so will only agree to a middle name and I can't bear the short versions of Edward either so again may have to be a middle name..

Like all the boys names except Ewan. Like all the girls names too, except Aimee (just think it doesn't work in an English context and without the accent) - although Millie I tend to think of as a nn for Amelia.

Though Edward will be shortened to eddie if you veto Ted or Ed so depends if you like that or not!

I have a Jamie and a Millie. Millie's nn is Mimi.

Emma is the only one of your girls' names that I like.

Edward is fabbo; I also like Jacob, Samuel and James (but not Jamie).

I don't like Freddie or Ewan.

Pootle - I also thought Woody as a nn for Edward but as I dreamt it I wasn't sure if it could be used or not??!! I do love this though - so glad I wasn't the only one who thought of Woody.

Bellissima - I always thought Millie as a nn for Millicent but wouldn't want to use the full name as always reminds me of a Victorian Servant (!)

If we go for Emma the middle name will be Marianné after my Gran which would flow quite nicely with the surname.. (lot's of M's though but hey ho)

I find out the sex on my 22 week scan next week so that'll make things easier!
