How about River for a boy's name? He has an older brother called Sebastian, so I want something that goes well.

not my cup of tea, but it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. If you and your partner like it, use it.

I would have thought with Sebastian, something like Matthew or Thomas or Marcus or Reuben or something like that.

I wouldn't say those two names go well together.

River is a bit hippy dippy new age and Sebastian definitely isn't.

I wouldn't choose either Sebastian or River personally, but there is nothing wrong with either of them. To me they sound fine together.

If you like it, go for it.

It does not really go with Sebastian, IMO.

Not keen on it as a name, a bit too lentil-weavery for me.

Please tell me that your surname isn't Banks.

I think it's awful. Poncey and awful.

Don't listen to me, though.

Love it. Great name.

Makes me think of dead drug addicted movie stars... of course that association will fade with time. I actually quite like it as a name, but it is quite hippyish.

yes if the others are called Phoenix and Rowan

not with Sebastian

Sebastian goes with Tobias, Theodore, other names that are traditional and a little off the beaten path imo.

An acquaintance of mine recently called her son River. TBBH I find it really sad for him. Maybe at a stretch it would be ok for a girl.

It's the hormones. Please don't do it. Use it as a nickname if you must.

Thanks very much for all your suggestions, I love Theodore but DH doesn't unfort. I'm going for River, it just seems right! I like things a bit different! Once people know him I'm sure he'll suit it whatever path he takes in life...
