My hubby really wants to name baby oscar if it is a boy. To be fair he has wanted to call all our other three children oscar, but two were girls and one he eventually agreed to the name i liked...on the basis he gets to name next one!

I really dont like oscar. It makes me think of eastenders and as hubs says he will call baby ozzie...ozzie osbourne! What do you think of the name oscar?

Like it but don't love it. Very common where I live and imho a little pretentious.

Love it - wanted it for DS3
DH hates it!

DH's (Flemish) sister has four boys, including an Oscar and a Victor. Inevitably I tend to refer to the other two as Tango and Foxtrot. (in fact Jerome and Emil - latter one of my fave boy's names).

It's ok, but I don't like it particularly... also reminds me of the grouch at sesame street.

Becoming quite common these days, so bear that in mind when making your decision.

oh yeah how could i forget oscar from sesame street, he was my fave! But still doesnt sway me, i agree its a bit too common now, and just...dont like it. WIll have to come up with some other names to sway DH.

I love the name Oscar but am less keen on Oz. I know an Oscar - he's a lovely bloke!

There are a lot of Oscars about aren't there? If I ever have a son I'd like to call him Ossie though, I just love it.

Go on , let you DH have his way with this one!

I have a French friend whose son is called Oscar and she calls him Oscargo (as in escargo...) it's really sweet. It's a gorgeous name, both in English and in French.

I have told other people it may be oscar however, to placate dh. Its after his grandfather apparently.

I love it, the only thing that would put me off personally is that it's very popular.. depends if that bothers you

I don't watch eastenders...

I like Oscar. has a good, mischievous vibe to it.

So long as your DH doesn't decide to go for Oscarina if it's a girl.....

I can't believe how popular it has become. In fact, when DH and I were considering it for DC2, a lovely little boy befriended DH at a park and told him "my name's Oscar. There are 3 other Oscars in the park today". I kid you not, every park I go to with DS1 I hear at least 2/3 different parents calling for their Oscars!

I like it a lot - and called one of my cats Oscar!! (I have 2 girls on the 'human' front and a couple of male pets! )

It is very popular now though.
