Anyone from Holland? Anouska not Anouk

I like Anouska but want to avoid Anouk. I live in Holland and have a Dutch partner, will my daughter automatically get called Anouk by everyone? Thanks!

I don't think so - on the other hand if you really hate Anouk it's running a risk. It's a bit like calling your kid William and throwing a fit if someone calls him Bill.

Btw, where are you in NL? I'm down in Limburg.

I am married to a Dutchman and our daughter is called Maike (pronounced Mikey). Apparently a very old fashioned dutch name. I love it, and all my family do too.

I've met two dutch Anoushkas and neither gave this as a problem!

i don't think it'll be a problem, it's not an automatic shortening really so i think you'd be safe enough.

that said if you'd really loathe it it might be best not to... she may decide herself to be anouk as a teen... my dad chose a very traditional irish name for me (even though he's the dutch one and my mother is irish!) which he'd loved for years and i annoyed the hell out of him by calling myself dee from my teens on... he and my mother are the only people who use my full name these days!
