Hello, I'm sure we'll change our minds many times between now and then, but at the moment we both like:

Claudia
Lorelei
Marnie
Juliet

Any preferences/rabid dislikes?! Don't feel you have to be kind! Thank you!

I love Claudia. Juliet is ok. I don't like the others.

Love Claudia - it's very elegant. For me, Lorelei is a bit American Stripper, but that might be what you're going for .

Marnie is cute and Juliet is a bit dull, but nice.

They don't seem similar in style to me. Do you have other children?

They are all fine by me, I would think they are all quite similar in style. I like Claudia best.

Juliet is my outright favourite.

Personally not keen on Claudia. It's quite a cold, Germanic sounding name to my ears.

Marnie - NO. Yuck.

Lorelei is sweet.

I like them all except Lorelei.

I love Juliet, quite like Claudia, not at all keen on Marnie, and Lorelei is a rock.

Claudia I quite like. Juliet is ok. But I really don't like the other two.

not overly keen on any of them, but if I had to pick one it would be Juliet, as I quite like jude as a shortened name. Are these all that are on your short list? how do they fit with your surname?

Claudia- my favourite
Lorelei- stripper?
Marnie- cute name, but will people think you are too fond of Armani?
Juliet- so dull. I prefer Juliette,if you have to use it, Juliet seems a bit stifled.

So I prefer Claudia, it has the most ageless style. Marnie is OK. I hate Lorelei and I hate Juliet, but love Julia.

I love Claudia, its just a shame about the meaning

Lorelei - not to my taste
Marnie - ok
Juliet - not so much but like Julia

Thanks for the comments so far, very illuminating! To answer your questions, this will be our first child; we have quite a long list of names but I didn't want to inflict that on you, so these are my current faves; and yes all of them go well with our surname!

Lorelei is a great name

I love Lorelei, I thought it was the woman who sat on the rock, rather than the rock itself? My hazy memory is that she is Germanic legend's version of the sirens, she sat brushing her hair on the rock by the Rhine looking generally irresistible and lured sailors to their death. Pretty cool story for a name I reckon!

lechatnoir · 26/05/2009 16:10

Lorelei sounds very american stripper to me regardless of the meaning
Claudia - ok prefer Claudine
Marnie - really like
Juliet - bit boring

Report
TheKurgan · 26/05/2009 16:39

Confusing! Lorelei seems to be a marmite name as does Marnie (though at least Marnie gets to keep her clothes on!)

Hmmm, see, I would have said Marnie was a stripper name. Or an American beauty pageant contestant's name, at least

'My name is Marnie and I want world peace'...etc

My name is Marnie, and I am sick of having to spell it I am not a stripper ;) Oh, and can I say that accent affects how pleasant the name sounds? My Irish DH says my name beautifully, my essex family shorten it to Marn. To me, that particular noise has always made me think of someone who's been lobotomised grunting.

Claudia - shame about the meaning - couldn't use it for that reason.

Lorelei - having seen the Lorelei on the river Rhine, I can't imagine it for a girl...

Marnie - lovely

Juliet - sounds a little 'dated'

Claudia - great name, good choice

Lorelei- bit twee.

Marnie - makes me think of the Hitchcock film. not keen

Juliet - too like Julie.

Report
hulabula · 08/06/2009 13:14

Claudia - means 'lame' or 'disabled' - which is a shame as it is a nice name...

Lorelei- not sure how you'd pronounce it, but could be nice

Marnie - like it very much

Juliet - not that keen on this one.

I definitely like Juliet the best from these. Maybe check out the meanings for these names to see which one you like the best? You can search for names by meaning over at www.bounty.com/babynames/ Good luck x
