Advice wanted from London mums... how popular are these names right now?

DH and are pretty well agreed on Jacob for a boy or Eva for a girl. But are the nurseries full of them at the moment? Don't mind a fairly popular name but would rather there weren't several of them in the same class...

I don't think London is awash with kids with these names (both lovely btw).

We went for an unusual name for ds1 and that has its downsides too, so just go with what you like!

Not sure about Jacob but Eva / Evie / Ava is everywhere. I think it is the Catherine / Katherine / Kathryn name of the noughties.

Yes agreed beansprout. My daughter's name is fairly unusual and gets or every time I tell people her name.

There's one Jacob at DD's nursery (in south east london) - no Evas etc.

Anyway, it doesn't matter - if you love the name, just go for it!

Jake (if you're going to shorten it) is very very populat in our part of London. Eve and Evie are very popular but I haven't heard Eva often.
I love Jacob, great name.

Can't think of any Evas or Jacobs in DS's school.

My nephew is Jacob and has never been shortened to Jake - I do know of a couple of Jakes.

Don't think I'd shorten it as I love Jacob as it is... but I suspect that might happen at school anyway

I'm in SE22 and I know
1 Evelyn, nicknamed Evie,
2 Evas
1 Ava
2 Evies
and that's just personal aquaintances, there are possibly more at DS1's pre-school

I only know 1 Jacob

I'm in SW London and can vouch for the fact that there are a large number of girls called: Eve/Evie/Ava.

Jake you hear a lot, Jacob slightly less but still popular.

I am in West London and know to Avas and an Evie. No Evas here but I know one in Devon!

I don't know any Jacobs.

I know one Jacob, an Eve, an Ava and an Eva. All about 3-5 years old.

My DD's class - one Jacob. Wouldn't worry about it though, not massively common.
Do know a lot of Eve/Eva/Avas.

I'm sw London and I know 1 Evie, 1 Eve and 1 Eva (but she lives in Brum). I don;t think I know any Jacobs. I know a 14 year old Jake in Oxford.

I am not in London but I know a 7 year old called Evelyn, known as Evie and I thought it was very pretty and unusual but unfortunately it now seems to be the most popular girls name out!

Eva/Ava/Eve/Evie seem popular here (Peckham) - 4 at my favourite toddler group. Jacob much less so.

That is a great website! Two of my favourite names, Bruce and Victor, are much more popular in my postcode (430 locally, 496 nationally) than in the rest of London. Does that suggest they might be contendors for the next Gus/Oscar slots?

Report
LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 18/07/2008 17:59

Wow, just playing around with that website and apparently Victor is number 48 in w1 and 388 nationally!

I don't know a single baby Victor.
