Baby names

Would you use one of your children's middle names as a first name for your next baby?

I love ds2's middle name and would have considered it for a first name for another baby but we did not think we would have another .

Would people think we were crazy to call him ds2's middle name?

BTW not sure if we are having a boy at all but in theory....??

I would like to and we asked ds if we could but he wasn't keen
if he liked the idea I might well do it

I would. I don't think people would think you are crazy, but they might guess that you quite like that name!

There are. But my next favourtie boys name is the name that my sis and partner want to call a boy if and when they have one. They have a good, sentimental family reason to use the name. Whereas we just kind of like it so feel it is off limits.

Ohhhhh
do i need to start a proper name thread

Dh has family friends that did this to their 3 daughters. I think there are only 4 names between them, just all swapped about in a different order.

So one girl is
eg Janet Jane
next is Jane Emma
next is Emma Janet

Seems abit odd IMO, but I also love dd's middle name and now I'm expecting no3 I would use it for a girl if I could. But don't feel I can - it's definitely "owned" by dd now IYSWIM.

no no no.

am glad dd2 was a girl if only that dh couldn't use his name for a middle name.

i don't object to that per se.

but he had already given it to ds!

think he wants an army of clones...

I know what you mean - ds2 'owns' his middle name too......

I think ought to get my thinking cap on.

We like traditional. Popular is fine. Both ds1 and 2 have 'top five' first names.

Suggestions?

I have a friend who did this. She honestly thought she'd have just one when she started.
My brother has also used my ds1's middle name for his ds.
In both cases I don't think it really matters since no-one pays too much attention to the middle name.
Our boys middle names were chosen as a backup in case they didn't like the name we gave them (one of my brothers goes by his middle name), so could that be an issue? Or could you give ds1 another middle name in case of that (unlikely) need?

I really like DDs middle name (obviously!), and it was a contender for being a first name too. I love it as her middle name though as it sounds good when both names said together (not that we really do this), so a bit gutted that I can't use it again. I suppose if it's a family name or something then ok for all children to have as middle name, but otherwise I wouldn't.

An ex of mine had his mums maiden name as a middle name, as did his brother and sister. Wasn't hyphonated with surname though, just as a middle name. Sounded nice on all of them.

I wouldn't.

No, very bad idea. Will make ds2 feel disgruntled and new baby feel short changed. And will be cast up at you in every row you ever have with them for the rest of your lives!

We considered it for dc no 2 but she was girl and we already had ds so never had to make final decision!

i also love my dds middle name, and if I had another girl would be v tempted to call her it. But would have some reservations ie. the short changed issue edam mentioned. Is there anyway you could use a gaelic version of the same name, just to change it a bit but have the same essential feeling about the name?

I want to do exactly that if our next one is a boy but my dh thinks that's totally mad.

But I LOVE the name!!!
