Short for Leonard which would have meaning for us. Or would you go with Leo? OH likes quite traditional names

Anyway you can still use Leo as a short form which I think is a lot nicer than Lenny. I have to say I prefer Leonardo, but if he’s called Leo on a day to day basis it doesn’t matter.

If you pronounce it Lennard then Lenny is the natural shortening.

Leo sounds like it's short for Leonardo or Leo-nard (pronounced like this in other languages)

My 4 week old son is called Leonard and we call him Lenny 💙💙 so I love it!
He could have been Leo or Lenny but he is definitely a Lenny! I think Leonard can be a professional name for when he is older!

Leonard is super. Love it. Would not shorten, or would use Leo or Len because I agree that Lenny, cute for a baby, is a bit spivvy for an older boy/man.

Lenny's fine as a nn. It really depends on whether you prefer a retro nn like Lenny (when you already have vintage style name in Leonard), or whether you mind a more popular name like Leo. Lenny would probably be more instinctual though since most English speakers say Leonard as "Lennerd".

I think most younger kids will think of Lenny from the Simpsons before they think of the Steinbeck novel, so I wouldn't worry about that too much (I'm not sure whether it is still a core text for older kids?)

I have a Leonard, known as Leo. That was my condition of calling him Leonard, some of his paternal family call him Lenny and I hate it, but he's of an age where he corrects them or just ignores them now. It's a family name which is why I went with it.

I’d go with Leopold/Leo personally.
But I don’t dislike Lenny. I know quite a few boys and dogs called Leo, so Lenny would certainly be a more unusual choice around here.
