My new baby girl will be called Marin/Maren. What do people think is best spelling?

Either spelling she will have to continually spell out so I don’t think it matters. Both spellings are outside the top 3,500 names so doesn’t really matter either way

I like Maren - but it's more familiar to me as I know people with this name. Also think it reflects the pronunciation better

I'd pronounce those slightly differently.

Marin as it's spelt and Marun for Maren.

I have not heard of either and wouldn't know how to say or spell either.

But that just means that you learn from the person you meet, they say my name is Marin, and if you need to write it, you ask how to spell it. So either will work fine.

If I saw it written though, and needed to say it, I would say them a bit differently

Maren, like the singer Maren Morris.

Maren gives a completely different sound to Marin, I would go with Maren, which I think is the traditional spelling anyway.

The origin appears to change depending on where you look.

Marin is generally described as from the name Mary and also meaning 'of the sea'. It is also used as a boys name in some Eastern European countries. In the USA it is used almost exclusively as a female name. Similarly it's exclusively a female name in Iceland. Unisex in some Scandinavian countries.

Maren is Danish/Norwegian. Exclusively a feminine name. Again a form of Mary.

We pronounce it rhyming with 'Karen'. Other pronunciations are Muh-rin (like the city in California), or Mare-in.
