Baby names

Ernie or Dougie

We are 28 weeks pregnant with a little boy 😍💙 for months we have loved the name Ernest (he'd be known as Ernie for short). We have James in mind as a middle name so he'd be Ernest James.
However I've found myself wandering away from this name now and wondering if I love it as much as I thought I did.
Hubby loves Douglas James (again Dougie for short - we keep getting drawn to names with -ie at the end!)

Just wondering which people prefer, out of interest more than anything?
Other names we like are Sonny, Charlie, Arthur (Artie) ...

Would love opinions, thanks! X

I prefer Douglas/Dougie, as I think it is less old fashioned than Ernest/Ernie. But I suspect that is just as I know younger Douglas/Doug/Dougies.

Douglas/Dougie James sounds lovely :)

I like both, but prefer Ernest.

I prefer Dougie/Douglas
Ernest James does flow really nicely but I don't like Ernie at all.

I've always absolutely loved Theodore/Teddy but hubby isn't so keen 🙄

Ernest James makes me think of the jewellers - so I would either think of a new middle name or go with Douglas James

I love Ernest/Ernie as it was my DGF name, but we would have used it as a middle name rather than a first as it is very old fashioned and not one that's had a revival to my knowledge. Dougie is sweet but brings to mind Hey Duggee.

Middle names are so so rarely used that I wouldn't worry about the jeweller. Aren't they called Jones not James anyway?

Love both equally!!!

We said the same about the jewellers but it's Ernest Jones not James, and he'd not be known as both names together, just his first name.

I don't particularly mind that it hasn't had a revival, I like that it's unique without being too out there?

Yes you are right it’s Ernest Jones ! Then both your names are lovely ! Just see which one suits the little man when he arrives Smile

@CIT80 I think that's what we're gonna have to do! Watch we'll call him something completely different 😂 God it's high pressure naming an actual human isn't it!!!

Charlie or Arthur.

Don't like Ernest at all, sorry and Dougie sounds out of time.

Douglas & Dougie are nice.

Ernest & Ernie are utterly hideous.
