Gorgeous. My niece is called Edie. I think it works on its own or with Edith as a full name.

I like it and also Edith.

I’d use Edith and shorten to Edie (maybe) but wouldn’t use Edie alone on the birth certificate

I like it (it's also my favourite song by The Cult).

don't really like Edith, is it okay on its own? Thanks!

Love Edie! Was going to call my daughter this but my partner wouldn't agree. We went for Evelyn in the end but Edie is a lovely name.

I have an Eden, she gets called Edie by all her friends. While I love Edie I hate it as a nickname... I'd just use Edie if its a name you love.

Looks like a boys name, a nickname for Edward.

Love Edie, Edith and Eden. Dd was nearly one herself! Smile

Pipi- long vowel, one consonant. Short vowel, two consonants. Not sure if you're not English (German?) so just explaining to you that the nickname for Edward is Eddie- two ds)

Love Edie on its own and as a short form of Edith. Have also heard Edie as a nn for Meredith which worked well.

I'm not keen - it's ok short for Eden but she will just get called Ede.
Could it be short for Edwina?

Thanks Brutus. But when I see Ed or Edie my brain still thinks Ed-ie, but thanks for the explanation.

I like it, but slightly prefer the spelling "Eadi" - it looks more like how I think it should be spelt!

I have a Meredith and everyone calls her Edie

pipilangstrumpf · 19/03/2018 12:38

Yes, Eadie is much more phonetic than Edie!

We have an 8 week old Edith.

She is Edie mainly but Edith on BC.

I have an edie (Edith on birth certificate) so I'm biased but I love it! We've had so many compliments on what a beautiful name it is, and I think it will travel with her perfectly as it's quite cutesy but also elegant and classy for when she's older

Loved it, but OH vetoed it. Still think it's pretty.

@Lifeaback

Out of interest, how do you introduce your little one? (We introduce as Edith even though we call her Edie)

Report
Snooks1971 · 19/03/2018 20:16

Edie was always on my list, mainly because of the absolute beauty of Edie Sedgwick, one of Andy Warhol's muses. Might not be aspirational as such but my god she was seminal!
In the end we both settled on Pearl Smile
Edie is a beautiful, underused name IMO, OP.
