Names like Iola

Been active on this quite a lot. Violet is on our shortlist for DD. However I find the popularity a little worrying.

Recently came across Iola meaning 'violet' or 'Violet coloured dawn' which I think it beautiful (especially considering I also like Aurora meaning Goddess of the dawn due to this being our first child and Dawn signalling a new day). However, it turns out to be the name of someone in DP's family.
So good news for people who love Violet, Iola is a nice alternative.

However I am now wondering if there are any other names with colour meanings that you wouldn't immediately be aware of? Or names that are like Iola

Iolanthe is a name derived from Iola. I think it's really pretty.

As for other colours, Iris is the Greek goddess of rainbows.

Marv1nGay3 a bit too 'out-there' for us I'm afraid. It is lovely though.
ChocolateCrunch do you think people would mistake that for Lilly? I like Lila but that's my worry.
IVflytrap I'll pass it onto DP thanks. Iris is nice but again very popular where I am
NotAQueef I do like Shakespeare and Viola is nice I just feel like something is missing. Also makes me think of the instrument which I guess could work as my DP is musical but hmmm

Iola is a Welsh name. There are other Welsh names that would suit your theme :Enfys means rainbow, siriol means bright for example.

Iolanthe is lovely and avoids the Iola problem of being read as Lola. We had an Iola in nursery and that happened all the time.

I'd just use Violet, who cares if it's popular, if you love it.

I'm a big fan of pretty, classic (but not stupid), easy to spell and pronounce names, they make life easier for your child.

The welsh name Iola is pronounced Yollah.
Viola is beautiful (the musical instrument is pronounced Vee-ola, not Vie-ola).
Oriana can be used as a form of Aurora or Dawn, and it's very pretty.
