Based the spellings, how would you pronounce these 6 names?

BertrandRussell Tue 14-Nov-17 11:45:47

I would assume Elena and Ellen.

But I would really wonder why you weren't using the traditional spelling and why you wanted to make your dd's life even a tiny bit more difficult for no good reason.

Agree with IVFlytrap.

I'll also add that I wouldn't pronounce any of them the same as you would "Eleanor".

Ellena - elle-en-ah
Elena, -elle-ay-na
Elenna, -el-enna
Elina, - el -eena
Elin, -ay-llin
Ellin - ell-in

could you not just use Eleanor or Ellen or Aileen? Lots of the difference in pronunciation will be due to regional differences I expect.

Ellen-a emphasis on first syllable
Ell-ay-na
Ell-enna emphasis on second syllable
Ell-ee-na
Ey-lin (to rhyme with Michael/Sarah Palin)
Ell-in

It's not for my child. I love looking at the lists of names that are released each year and was perusing the 2016 list of girls names and couldn't working out how they were pronounced.

I'm not sure. Elena seems the only correct name?

I have an Eliana.

SuperBeagle Wed 15-Nov-17 21:33:47

Ellena, Elena, Elenna, Elina, Elin, Ellin (10 Posts)

Ellena = ELLE-en-ah.

Elena = elle-EE-nah.

Elenna = eh-LEN-ah.

Elina = elle-EE-nah (like Elena)

Elin = EE-lyn.

Ellen = EH-lyn (like Ellen)

Capitals to represent where the emphasis in the name is.

Elin is Welsh and is EH-lin

I'd pronounce Ellin the same as Elin
Elena Ellena and Elenna all eh-len-ah
Elina eh-lee-na

Elin is the only one I'm confident I'm right on though

OhPoop Sat 18-Nov-17 20:38:38

First 3 all the same Ell-a-nah

Then El-ee-nah for Elina/Ellina

Elina I’d say EL-Lyn-A

OhPoop Sat 18-Nov-17 20:39:45

Whoops Elin I’d say was ELL-LYN

CancellyMcChequeface Sat 18-Nov-17 20:48:40
