my oh loves it. I don't hate it....but don't love it. love Bertie thou.
so any other names I can suggest along the Wilbert lines?
also on his list are Wilfred Cecil and Toby.
he likes very traditional names where as I'm a bit more open to all names and love more American style...austin Tyler Reece ....we just can't decide.
middle name is James for family reasons
would love some help and suggestions Grin

Wilfred - lovely
Cecil - I really like it, but imagine it's a bit marmite
Toby - lovely, but popular
Tyler - don't like and sounds like a profession rather than a name
Reece - I like it, but prefer the Rhys spelling
Austin - ok
Wilbert - no, I don't like at all (sorry to your DH)

I’m not keen on names that can be shortened to Willy. I’m Scottish though. Maybe in other parts of the UK etc it would be more likely to be Will.

He likes Toby - how about Tobias?

I think Tobias is unusual while Toby is really common for some reason. Like Freddie and Alfie... no Fredericks or Alfreds around much any more!

I suggested Tobias he wasn't keen
after talking last night we both really like Cedric....and he is not a Harry potter fan so doesn't know about Cedric or my love for him!!! so thats our number one at the mo

Sometimes I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole, Wilbert! Arthur! Is this lumber your kids with an ugly name day

Bowsandbugs · 02/10/2017 10:47

sonlypuppyfat different people, different tastes. OP would probably dislike your children's names too ;)

Wilbert is okay. I'm with you though, I prefer Bertie.

Wilfred, Cecil and Toby are good names too, my favourite being Wilfred. If he likes Toby though, maybe you can suggest Tobias and having his nickname be Toby.

Some other suggestions -

Walter (shorten to Walt - nice Disney connotations with this name)
Robert
Alfred (nn Alfie, Fred or Freddie)
Albert (nn Albie)
Arthur (nice meaning - means Bear)
Alistair
Edward
Eugene
Ernest
Harold
Frank/Franklin
Hector

Wilbert is seriously bad. As are Cecil and Wilfred. Although I suppose Wilfred is slightly less awful than Wilbert and Cecil.

Toby is fine. Cedric is borderline but I can imagine a kid making it his own.

But Wilbert......don't do it to the poor mite.

I think Wilbert is lovely. He can shorten it to Will or Bert.

I'd also consider: -
Bartholomew (Bertie or Bart)
Bertram (Bertie)
Gabriel (Gabe)
Raphael (Raph)
Thomas
Alfred
Nicholas
Klaus
William
Robert (Bob or Bobby)
Matthew.

All in the same vein as Wilbert, I think.

Wilbert would be a very cute name for a cat - but I don't think it should be inflicted on a human. Sorry OP

Wilbur
Wilf (v hipster trendy)

but not Wilbert; I'm sorry. Looks like a mashup of William and Gilbert x

Wilbert sounds pretty comical to me. Wilfred or Albert - fine!
