Boy Names; Leon, Kit, Floyd, Jamie, Cook, Dacre
Girl Names; Valentine, Ivy, Lyla, Uma

This is my current list, it'd be cool if you could recommend me some similar ones / ones that you think I'd like and also share your thoughts on these, thanks!!

I dislike Floyd, Cook and Dacre as I don't like surnames used as forenames.

Jamie and Kit - these are nice versions of good traditional names, but I would give him the proper name of James or Christopher/Christian so he has some flexibility as he gets older.

I like Leon. I would suggest Anton.

Valentine is a man's name, but you could have Valentina. Valerie is a bit similar, but not very common atm.

I don't really like the other girls' names.
Ivy makes me think of an IV (intravenous drip!)
Lyla and Layla in various spellings seem to be very popular now.
I just don't like the sound of Uma.

CricketRuntAndRashers Fri 12-May-17 17:39:28

I personally don't like Floyd, Cook and Dacre.
Leon is nice. I agree with pp's suggestion, Anton is also lovely.

Jamie and Kit are great nn imo.

I also like Valentina. Ivy is also really nice.
What about Ula, Ulla or Una?

Rockaby Fri 12-May-17 17:54:29

I only like Leon and Valentina, but I really like them smile.

Rockaby Fri 12-May-17 17:55:48

Oh sorry, I assumed Valentine was a typo. I don't really like Valentine for a girl. I think it's a boy name usually and I do like it for a boy.

ThroughThickAndThin01 Fri 12-May-17 17:56:46

Love Kit and Jamie.

I also think of Valentine as a boys name.

29Palms Fri 12-May-17 18:04:24

Leontine for a girl combines two of your choices.
There's also Laurentine.

Rockaby Fri 12-May-17 18:05:45

I really like Leontine.

Sugarpiehoneyeye Fri 12-May-17 20:31:45

From your list, I like Jamie, Leon and Lyla.
Suggestions;
Valentina
Ulla
Lyra
Linnet
Ida
Valerie

WyfOfBathe Fri 12-May-17 20:40:24

I like Leon, Kit and Jamie - my favourite of those is Leon.

I also like Ivy and Lyla. Valentine definitely seems female to me (in French it's the female version of Valentin) but I can imagine jokes about "Valentine didn't get any valentines".

Other names you might like:
Kitty
Ada
Mila
Lena

Milo
Rafe / Raphael

The argument that someone doesn't like a name because it's a surname is rubbish. TONS of common first names are also surnames. John, Martin, Christopher, William, etc, on and on are also surnames. It's a ridiculous stance. Name your child whatever you wish.

Nicky2468 Mon 15-May-17 05:46:08

Aquamarine1029 - Some could say that your view on this is "rubbish or ridiculous" (just as you have about their view) but they don't because they are able to respect that that's your opinion. It's such a shame when some can't leave their opinion without criticising others stance on things!
I agree that you can name your child whatever you wish (within reason though!).
I'm generally not keen on surnames as first names either.
Jamie and Leon are the best there as Kit makes me think of (PE kit).
Lyla is the best one there, then Valentina. Ivy too makes me think of an IV! Not keen on Uma as it sounds a bit harsh.

There are various kinds of surname. In the beginning there were no surnames. Some names became family surnames as well as the need to distinguish people grew. I would put names like James and Martin in this category.

Other surnames came from the places where people lived (Ford, Wood) or a description of how they looked (Short, Brown). Others came from occupations (Cook, Mason). I don't care for these types of name used as forenames. That is my personal preference and it is not "rubbish".

Maggie2828 Mon 15-May-17 20:57:56

Jamie and kit are really nice. Leon is ok, prefer Leo. Floyd, dacre and cook are awful imo. Not keen I need ivy or Ina. What about iris, Orla or Iona?

Maggie2828 Mon 15-May-17 21:05:28

Oops, meant not keen on ivy or uma. Other girls suggestion is venetia?

I love all these names - especially Floyd, Dacre and Leon from the boys as well as Ivy and Valentine from the girls. I personally feel that, although Valentine is traditionally a boy's name, it suits a girl a lot more. Lyla I love as well, however it reminds me a lot of the Oasis song that my dad played constantly through my childhood with the same name.

Cook and Jamie don't really stand out for me, as Cook is quite a popular last name but the possible nickname Cookie is super cute. Jamie seems a little common in comparison to some of your other choices.

Some similar boys names:
Tate, Jett, Ivo, Logan, Elliot, Jago, Timur, Bram, Kito, Byron, Mordecai

Similar Girls Names:
Valya, Edie, Anya, Effy, Flora

Sorry it's taken so long to reply!! (I actually forgot I did this)

I see Valentine as a girls name, especially seeing as I love the book The Count of Monte Cristo and my favourite character is a woman called Valentine - it personally seems far too feminine to be a mans name. I don't like Valentina as an alternative.

I didn't actually realise that Floyd and Dacre were last names, however I do still love them both regardless. Floyd I feel is a name that works no matter how old they are and Dacre I think sounds really cool (I also believe it's the name of Bram Stokers grandson??). Cook and Kit were my friends suggestions that I liked, they're quite unique yet they don't sound too 'out there'.

This might sound stupid, but I like Jamie because I absolutely love Jamie T. I also adore the songs 'Lyla' by Oasis and 'Ivy' by Frank Ocean.

I'm not sure why I like Uma - kind of mysterious and unique but quite simple still. Same with Leon, it just sounds cool I guess.

I hate Anton, not sure why. I love Iris but I'm avoiding names with the letter 'S' or similar sounding letters in. I like Lena, Anya and Logan.

user1464799068 Wed 17-May-17 21:02:59

Also, it turns out I'm having girl/boy twins - so if you could pair any of these names or similar names that you think would go well together that'd be great. Thanks.

Rockaby Wed 17-May-17 21:17:27

Leon and Valentine/a!

user1464799068 Wed 17-May-17 22:38:57

I do like Leon and Valentine as a pair, however it just occurred to me that Leon is awfully similar to Lee (my dads name) - is it too alike or am I just being picky??

PhuntSox Thu 18-May-17 16:29:00

James and Lena
Christopher and Anya

JaeDon Sat 20-May-17 13:42:23

I think using the name Leon would be fine, they're not overly similar names.

Floyd and Ivy
Leon and Valentine
Logan and Anya
Kit and Lyla

Do you definitely know it is girl / boy twins op? Did you find that out at your first scan or did you not know it was twins till your second scan?

Only because I know a woman who was utterly convinced she was having girl / boy twins from the moment she found out she was expecting twins, just based on a feeling. She sorted names and even got some girl and clothes handed down from friends. Then she got to the second scan and of course it was two of the same sex! She was happy, but genuinely shocked - she said that she even told the sonographer she must be wrong grin!

Rockaby Sun 21-May-17 07:23:48

Or hang on, do you mean you're having either girl twins or boy twins? I may have totally got the wrong guy end of the stick! Wouldn't be the first time smile.
