Emmeline? Is it emma-line or emma-leen? I love the name emma but prefer a longer name. TIA

Emma-leen, I've never heard of anyone pronouncing it Emma-line

In the Anne of Green Gables TV series there's a character called Emmeline pronounced Emma-line. So both must be correct.

Maybe emma-line is the american/Canadian way to pronounce it?

Emma-leen. I've never heard it pronounced the other way.

Lovely name. I'd pronounce it Emma-leen like in the poem by A A Milne where the first verse goes:

Emmeline
Has not been seen
For more than week. She slipped between
The two tall trees at the end of the green…
We all went after her. “Emmeline!”

The poem wouldn't work if it was Emma-line Grin

I wouldn't have a clue so would avoid saying it till I'd heard someone else pronounce it!

I'd say it how it's spelt, Emma-line

I pronounce it more like Emma-Lynn, but only because I know one who pronounces it like that and goes by the nn Lynn

I say it more like Emmeh-leen - the A doesn't come out as strongly as on the end of the name Emma.

Emmeline
We've not seen a sign
For more than a week. She slipped behind
The two tall trees at the end of the Rhine

The line part rhymes with green. Does not rhyme with pine.

Well, I only know one Emmaline - she's a Canadian - and she pronounces it Emmaleen Smile

Emma-LINE.

Line to rhyme with wine.

Just like I'd pronounce Adeline Add-Eh-LINE, not Addaleen.
