I really like the name Arthur. DD2 has a really nice boy in her class called this. I'm not a fan of the name Stanley but could imagine growing to like it if a friend/family member called their baby it.

I have an almost 12 year old Stanley, I still love his name. Wasn't as popular in 2005, but I only know of 2 others nursery aged now. Suited him as a toddler and still does now as a pre-teen. I wanted him to have a name that grows with him and won't sound silly when he's an old bloke in his 60's sitting in the pub unlike the woman in the bed next to me when I delivered him who named her child Blue

I'm expecting dc3 in June and have Arthur, Albert, Lenny and Sidney on my list (if it's a boy) for the same reasons.

I know 2 Arthurs and no Stanleys so I'd go for the latter. Both good names.

I love a good Stan Xmas Grin

It's one of those names that really has character, IMHO

Arthur. It has a nice meaning too.

I like both.

I know an Arthur aged 8 & one in his 90s, it really suits both of them.

I also know a very cool teenage Stanley, known as Stan.

I am not too keen on either. I don't hate them but don't love them either. Of the two I would pick arthur.

Idk... when I read Stanley my mind immediately added 'Cup'.

But that's nothing bad, is it?

I think I like Stanley. Go for it :)!

But Arthur is really lovely as well, btw. Just a bit more popular....

Im 35 weeks and don't know if baby is a girl or boy but if a boy he will be Stanley Smile . I have a cousin with an Arthur (age 2) and while I like the name its not one I'd use. I've never met a Stanley under the age of 50 myself but love the name

I looked them both but Arthur is probably my favourite.

They're both nice but Arthur is lovely.

According to namesdarkgreener Stanley is surprisingly popular and rising in popularity. Huh. Interesting, I guess.

But still a bit less popping than Arthur.

One of my DCs has a Stanley in his class. He's chubby and has had some issues with being called Fat Stanley. He's lovely and it's a stupid nn for him but just be aware that the flat Stanley books are still v popular.

I love both. Hard to pick between the two but I'd probably go with Arthur though am not sure why.

I really dislike both and most names of this style for boys (they're so dreary and sound grey) but I'm definitely in the minority as there are many babies and boys under two where I live with these names as well as similar names of Albert, Frank and Alfred.

Out of the two, Arthur I dislike least and I do like the nn Art/Arty. Its the more popular of the two but nicer imo.

Although, having said Arthur is more popular, I know more Stanleys so I'm not sure!

Prefer Arthur.
