Elliot or Elliott?

I know Elliot is the original, but Elliott is more popular - people claim that Elliott is more balanced, but I disagree, as the syllables cut at El-li-ot and not Ell-i-ott I know I'm overthinking this!

Which would you go for?

I don't understand how much thought can go into a name.

The original looks better but that's because it's the original and the extra t looks odd to my eyes.

Do you discuss every name like this?

No... We have decided on Elliot/Elliott, so we're now discussing the spelling. I don't see why putting thought into a person's name is bad?

Out of curiosity for a girl or for a boy, OP? (Or both?) the name has become a bit unisex since Scrubs and I'm saying because I would love to have it for a girl

I would go for Elliott, but only because I find it easier to remember "2ls, 2ts" when I'm spelling it for other people's kids.

DH is an Elliott and gets annoyed that people always spell it with one t. Save a lifetime of angst and go with Elliot

I have an Elliot. 1 t. 2 is for a surname imo. Be prepared for everyone to spell it wrong though!

I have an Elliot, (aged 14) with 1 t- I'm in the 2 t's is a surname camp.

The Elliott is E.T. is 2 't's which confirms the 'surname' use imo .
