I'm not pg but came across this very old girls' name. I think it means "resurrection". I think it's lovely but probably a bit too weird. Opinions?

It doesn't really sound like a name for a person, to me.

I know an Anstice Hall. It's a building.

I think it's also a surname which would probably explain the building.

I like it. I also like Annis, which I came across in a 30s novel, but DH thought it was too much like Aniseed.

I really like it. It's a very old form of Anastasia but it's really only survived as a surname, e.g. Toby Anstis. A pity, I think.

I know an Anstice! It is indeed a very rare medieval form of Anastasia, meaning "resurrection". I've never met or even heard of anyone else with it as a given name, but there is at least one out there.

It's not my style, but it's not a million miles from Alice, so I don't think it's too weird. To me, it has the same kind of serious, slightly fusty, delicate-but-sturdy feel of names like Constance and Clemency.

I know a building called the Anstice. It's in what has become a suburb of Telford and we used to have a painting of it. If I heard a child called Anstice I'd have a strange mental picture.
