What are people's thoughts on the name Montgomery? With an M surname?

I don't personally like it all, but I don't see anything major wrong with it. Just not my taste.

I prefer Mortimer, but Montgomery is nice too

It reminds me of The Simpsons. I instantly associate that name with Mr Burns.

I'm sorry I don't like it either because it will be shortened to Monty and I knew a horrible little dog with that name.

... Burns.

Love it!

I really like it. And with Monty as a nickname. It's classic but different.

It's a no from me

Depends on the surname. But love it.

I like Monty... less sure about the full version though.

I know a little Monty - he's a lovely little boy and I can't imagine him being called anything else. Do it!

Monty Burns would be first in my mind, as well.

I think of Montgomery Clift, but I'm sure I'm the minority there. As PP's have said, it's pretty heavily associated with The Simpsons and that won't change anytime in the near future.

I like it (because of the Clift association), but wouldn't use it.

I like it but think it will get shortened, like it or not, and Monty is a very popular dogs name around my area.

MrsGsnow18 · 22/08/2016 22:37

I know it as a surname mostly.
Full name is nice, wouldn't be my choice but I don't think of anything negative when I hear it.
I'm not a huge fan of Monty as it seems like quite a popular name for dogs.

I also associate it with Clift my teenage crush and love Monty as a nn but am probably in the minority

It wouldbt be for me. No sorry

I like it but I hate Monty as a nickname.

I have always liked Montgomery (nn Monty) but as a PP suggests Mortimer! So so much cuter! Incidentally, I love alliterations.

Report
cookiefiend · 23/08/2016 04:29

Nice. I wouldn't let the association with the Simpsons put you off. There are lots of names which are less common whih people will associate with a character they remember- goes with the territory of a more unusual name.

Montagu? (Like the wonderful Monty Don)

Thanks for the comments! The Simpsons connection doesn't bother me but I do have my doubts that it's too doggy! Just useful to hear a cross section of views. This naming lark is hard.... Obsessing over names to the point that I could barely tell you if I like them anymore!

I also thought immediately of Monty Burns which would put me off. Aside from that, it isn't really to my taste. I don't like the sound and find it a bit of a mouthful - wouldn't know whether to say 'Mont-gom-eh-ry' or 'Mont-gom-ry'. I know a Monty, but Montgomery is his surname.

I meant I liked it! Hence Excellent.

Probably should have picked a less creepy pic Blush
