My niece has it as a definite maybe, what's your thoughts?

toadgirl Mon 15-Aug-16 17:34:27

It makes me think of "Sayonara" for some reason. I'm just not sure about it. It's the first time I've heard that name.

Sophronia Mon 15-Aug-16 17:58:52

It makes me think of sonar. I prefer the Cornish name Senara.

EssentialHummus Mon 15-Aug-16 18:04:46

I don't like it at all. Serena?

eyebrowsonfleek Mon 15-Aug-16 18:08:21

I've not heard of the name but it made me think of Samara from The Ring confused then the word Sonar (the latter obviously isnt scary)

Shockers Mon 15-Aug-16 18:09:59

I know an adult Sonara. She's very cool and her name suits her.

PurpleDaisies Mon 15-Aug-16 18:11:46

I'm not a fan. It sounds like a medicine to me, maybe one for insomnia.

Your niece isn't a mumsnetter is she? I'm guessing she's going to recognise that you've posted about her name choice if she is on here...

Kennington Mon 15-Aug-16 18:21:39

I read it as sonar - a. It takes a bit of getting used to and unless it means something interesting in another language I wouldn't go there. It sounds awkward to the ear.

I think of Sonarans from doctor Who

BendydickCuminsnatch Mon 15-Aug-16 18:29:17

My first thought too was sayonara which isn't the best IMO.

villainousbroodmare Mon 15-Aug-16 20:42:49

Sounds like a brand of headphones or a medication for travel sickness or something.

GillBear Mon 15-Aug-16 21:23:44

It sounds like an anti-snoring aid/medication

spacefrog35 Mon 15-Aug-16 21:27:37

Doctor Who for me as well

Not for me, but has she asked you to ask on here? Because if not, then please just smile and nod even if you hate it.

fluentinsarcasm Mon 15-Aug-16 22:17:54

I best mention she's not a mumsnetter and I think a MUCH prettier Irish name is the front runner. (MUCH looks wrong in capitals for some reason)

LunaLoveg00d Mon 15-Aug-16 23:26:43

Sounds like a make of car. "The new Toyota Sonara, fuel efficient etc etc"

NappingRabbit Tue 16-Aug-16 08:22:39

I also thought headphones or a contraceptive pill. Sorry, not my thing.

Hersetta427 Tue 16-Aug-16 08:31:05

No verging on hating it., sounds like a made up name for medication.

FoofFighter Tue 16-Aug-16 08:32:57

There's a Senara I know, very pretty name and prefer < this spelling to Sonara
