Nigerian Girl's Name

So I've posted a few times but we have a name we both like finally... Partner is Nigerian and we have agreed on... Kemi.

Thoughts?

I like it, there are names i like more but it's important we both agree and we don't have the same taste. My only worry is people keep going "Kenny?"

I know a Kemi (although it's short for something else). It's one of those names that she'll have to say and spell the first time but thereafter it's not difficult to grasp.

It's a lovely name but Kemi sounds nice too.

I like it. My friend at school was Oluwakemi but everyone called her Kemi and had no issues with it.

I had another friend called Titilayo and was called Layo for short. Also Myleita ( although I 've probably not spelt that right).

Wouldn't Oluwakemi be a boy's name? As far as I know, Olu means 'son of'. Almost all the Nigerian boys I know have a name that begins with Olu but is shortened to something else (Oluwatoni to Toni, Oluwatimileheim to Timi, Oluwakorede to Korede etc) but none of the girls have that prefix.

I think Kemi is very pretty on its own.

No, 'Olu' and 'Oluwa' mean 'God' or 'my God' and can be used for either sex - Oluwaseyi, for example. There are several such prefixes which are really common in Yoruba names - eg 'Ade' meaning 'crown', 'Ola' meaning 'wealth' and 'Temi' meaning 'mine'.
