How do people feel about Hamish? Any obvious nn?

I really like it. For some unknown reason it's fairly common here in Australia. 'Hame' is the usual nn, but I don't think it really needs one.

It's the Scottish version of James FYI.

Oh and I wouldn't shorten it. But then we don't shorten DS's name which has many common shortenings.

If I'm being honest, I think it sounds foreign (obviously not a bad thing and probably just me!)

It's just, my friend used to talk about a 'Hamish' and when I met him, you couldn't really get anymore 'English' - it's an okay name, certainly not dreadful... She only ever referred to him with the full name Smile

I get you, KatieT12My husband calls our Hamish 'Hamoosh' sometimes, and makes him sound vaguely Middle Eastern. Is that what you mean?

Dabchick88 - the only drawback to the name for me is that some members of my family who have strong regional accents and dialects, drop their aitches and call him Amish!

Love it.

'Moosh' is the only NN I've heard, which I'm not too keen on, but most of the Hamishes I know get the full name.
