Would you give third child two middle names if.....

Your first two children only had one middle name. ? If we have a boy we are tempted by an unusual first name. We were planning on having my father's name as one middle name. The thing is it is not the sort of name he would be likely to want to use use if he hates his first name. It's not a horrid name but a bit dated. My husband wonders if we should add a second middle name to give options. Our fist two only have one middle name each.

I have never heard of it being that common to use a middle name as posters would have you believe. I've known three people, sisters, in all my life.

Do what you want don't worry about siblings being annoyed that someone has one more name than them.

I have two middle names and my brother has one - neither of us ever gave it a thought either way.

My DS has two middle names and any further children would likely have one, I don't think it's an issue.

It's fine. Ds1 has one, ds2 and ds3 have two. I'm absolutely sure not one of them has noticed.

Ds1 has two middle names, ds2 has one. My sisters each have one middle name and I haven't got one, didn't bother me

DC1 had one middle name; certain circumstances around DC2's birth meant he had two. Nobody thought it remarkable because the extra one was so meaningful.

We got the middle names bug though and DC3 also has two. We've talked to DC1 about adding another at some point but it's a bit fiddly not to mention expensive for minors so we will delay the addition.

DS& DD1 have one middle name each and DD2 has two for various reasons.

DS does think it's not fair when it comes up (rarely) but he's 6 so I'm sure he'll get over it!

Out of the five madthings two of them have two middle names, the other three have one middle name. It's not an issue.

Madthing6 due next year will be lucky to get a name at all as we can't find any we like and agree on.

My sisters and I have:

eldest: two middle names (one after a parent, one after a great aunt)
middle: middle-named after doctor who delivered her
youngest: two middle names (one after a parent, one after a great aunt)

I always thought it was rather odd!

DD and DS2 both have 2 middle names, the second of each is slightly fanciful.
DS1 only has one but as he felt left out has started using my late FIL's (very unusual/actually quite cool) middle name as well.

How "out there" is the first name you like?

(just tell us!)

DC1 has 2, DC2 and DC3 have one and soon to arrive DC4 will have 2. All named for family members.

i see no reason why it should be an issue.

My brother Has two middle names. Me and my sister each have one. Never been an issue for me, in fact if I ever have a boy he'll also have two middle names (family names) even though dd only has one middle name.

I am inclined to think middle names are a waste of time.

My first three DC have one middle name but this one due in March will have two. This is because I want to give her my late grandma's name as a middle name but the initials would spell out something a bit silly so I'm going to break it up and throw my name in there too :)

DS1 has two middle names due to something relating to his birth.
DS2 has one but refuses to acknowledge it.
DH has one middle name
I have none and DB has one.
FIL has about a million (slight exaggeration)

It's never really discussed TBH.

I'm a third child and have two middle names while my siblings only have one. No-one has ever commented on it.

My exP's grandmother had eleven middle names! She was named after all the towns her father went through in France during WW1 apparently.
