Nothing felt right - ripped up the list and starting again

So after deliberating and deliberating we decided our list was not working for us...has this happened to anyone else. We both sat down and just wrote out the names we really like this is what we came up with

Scarlett - is it too yesterday
Cordelia
Maeve
Cecily
Elodie
Rowan

Middle names we are thinking May (but not if we went with Maeve) and Rose
Other half and I do like Maeve but can't think of a middle name it goes with

You have some really interesting names but I think adding May or Rose is doing them a disservice!

I like Cecily Maeve

Scarlett - not overly keen but don't think it's 'yesterday'. Goes well with Rose.
Cordelia - bit fancy for fancy's sake to my ears. Goes well with Rose or May
Maeve - quite like it. Very unusual now. Middle name - Elise or Marie?
Cecily - it's ok. Goes well with Rose
Elodie - like it. Goes well with Rose
Rowan - like it. Not sure it goes with either Rose or May though.

I live Rowan and like Elodie, not so keen on the others, although Cecily could be a grower.......I'm liking it more as I type Smile
One of my daughter's middle names is Mae, I think May/Mae is a lovely middle name.

I absolutely adore Maeve. Contemplated it for dd1 many, many years ago and still sometimes think of it (although her name turned out to be perfect for her and I can't see her as a Maeve now!).

Maeve followed by a longer, 'fussier' name would be gorgeous.

Maeve is the best one imo. From the others I like Scarlett, Cecily and Elodie.

Middle names with Maeve: Luna, Iris, Ingrid, Elena, Hazel, Faith, Lilian, Christina, Rowan, Roisin (row-sheen), Catherine, Alannah?

I really like Maeve.

How about Maeve Cecelia?

Love love love Maeve. It was top of our list for DD but some friends got in first and used it for their DD (they didn't know it was on our list, they just have great taste in names!). She's the only Maeve I know, of any age. Really like Cecily as well.

Cordelia is beautiful. Rose and May are both fillers IMO, although Rose is beautiful as a first name. I really like Elodie but it's growing popularity would put me off.

I asked DH if we could have Elodie yesterday and wad denied. Go on and do it for me instead

Report
Elbelle6 · 20/11/2015 20:16

I didn't think about Cecily Maeve which I like as a combination. I like Elodie but like you not DH favourite.

We both like Maave as it sounds determined but still feminine if that makes sense but the middle name is a tricky one. We were thinking May because it is a family name on both sides DH grandmother was Sarah May Dye.....I kid you not!

Maeve Frances?

I adore the name Maeve! A long middle name would go well with it. If you like Rose, what about Maeve Rosalind? Or what about:

Maeve Clementine
Maeve Gwendoline

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/11/2015 20:45

That's two votes for Maeve Gwendoline - sorted! :)

I don't think it works to have one name with a V in it and one with TH, it just doesn't flow.

We love the sound of Cecily Rose but I'm worried she may end up being nn cess as in pit.

Maeve we definitely love but DH says no way to Gwendoline lol. Hard name to match with a middle name though. I quite like Isabella because it's a strong queenly name but I do know quite a few pretentious Izzys!

Part of the problem I think is that I was given a name I loathed, which my family shortened to something I detested even more. I've never called myself by that name and as soon as I was 18 I changed it. My mum still introduces me to people by my much detested nn...I think it's made me paranoid

I have a v nice Izzy sitting next to me right now!
Also, as a mn, it would be unlikely to be Izzy-fied! :)

I love Cecily and Elodie. With Maeve as mn. Beautiful
