Baby names

My child is going to be nameless. Losing the will to live!!

Baby due in 5 weeks and my husband and I can't agree on names. Correction - I'm trying to think of names and he couldn't care less. No interest. Our 2 year old son is Milo and it's the perfect name for him. I feel like I used my favourite name when I named him and now I'm scuppered. We don't know the sex. I don't want a name that's too popular. On my list (I say 'my' cause I'm clearly doing this naming business solo) I have Sebastian/Seb (but becoming very popular), Wesley/Wes, Howell (dh totally vetoing though), Gabriel (but worried he'll be called 'gay' at school - am I over-thinking this?). We were going to use Jed, but someone we know has just used it.

For girls, I love Inés, but I know it will be mispronounced. I also like Ramona, but not sure I'm in love with it. I want a strong girl's name - nothing too flowery. I like Meredith, but himself says no. I did like Merryn for a while, but I've gone off it a bit.

Anyway, I'm really looking for other suggestions based on the names above. Please help before I have an unnamed child in my arms and divorce papers in my pocket.

That should be Inès (the French version). I probably need to forget it if I'm making spelling mistakes already!

Firstly, if your 'D'H couldn't care less (dies he want the baby?) then he doesn't get to veto. From your list I like Jed (don't think it really matters if a friend has used it) and Merryn.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. You know, RiverTam, I'm not entirely sure he does want this baby. It seems like it's more hassle to him than anything and we had to undergo fertility treatment to get pregnant, so it's not like this was a surprise. I'm incredibly frustrated at the moment and feel like I'm doing all this alone.

Seeing as you like M names, how about:
Mabel
Myrtle
Matilda
Melina

I like Jed. I know a Jet (short for Jethro, which is... different).
I had Gabriel on my list, but it's quite common round here (SE England).
We also had Jesse on the list, but my parents hated it. And Jerome, which we used as DS's middle name in the end.

OP, I'm sorry to hear that. It's not an excuse bit maybe your DH is just freaked out with worry and ignoring the imminent new baby is just his way of coping. Not much help for you, of course! Flowers

The baby is not due for another 5 weeks and then you have another 6 weeks to register the birth. Don't panic. IME men tend not to worry about stuff like this till the baby is born. Then they develop and interest. It's hard to name a baby you haven't met yet so develop your own short list and then wait to meet your baby. There is no rush!

You've got similar names to me on your list. (Ramona is earmarked for pending DC2 if it's a girl).

We also like (and agree on)
Hugh
Lawrence
Frederick (prob too popular for you)
Roscoe

Also, I think 5 weeks is quite a long time, maybe your DH works better with a tighter deadline! We all know it often doesn't get "real" for some men until the baby is upon them!
I hope he bucks his ideas up a bit! Flowers

Sorry.

One more girl's name I LOVED but my DP vetoed and I think goes with your list is Etta.

Firstly a hug to you but don't stress. Lots of men seem to struggle to get into the naming thing until baby's even here - my friend's DH wouldn't even discuss until baby arrived! Meant she got her first choice as he hadn't given it enough thought Grin

I am struggling with girls names too, the ones I LOVE DH doesn't, and i'm not sure if I love them because of that (love lost is the greatest and all that), but anyway - they are Violet, Chloe, Rommily, Romy, Aurora. All go very well with Milo and fairly unusual apart form Chloe. I love Ines though and don't think you should be too put off (although I take your point as I have a French name that is always getting muddled up despite not being mega unusual and it does piss me off). But better that than a name you aren't so keen on.

Boys I want Albie and think you might like that too. That is literally the only boys name I want, DH likes it but I fear he might back out thinking it is too out there.

Good luck!

How does your husband get on with your son, OP? I'd be furious if he'd checked out just before the birth - it's so selfish.

You have some lovely names there - I'd go for Ramona and Gabriel. Or you could have Gabriel or Gabriella?
