I love Felix but dh has absolutely ruled it out. I can't imagine loving any other name.

I have a long list of dislikes but hardly any likes!

I dislike:

Surname names eg Tyler, Riley, Finley,
Stanley, Harrison

ie ending names eg Charlie, Alfie, Archie, Frankie (and the full names of these are out as well as people would just assume we wanted him to be called the nickname version)

Anything too biblical eg Jacob, Eli, Noah (although I quite like Zachary..)

Made up names eg Jayden, Kai

I like:

Medieval names, old English, Latin, unusual classics.

Celtic possibly but not too Irish or Scottish as we have no connections there so I think it would be weird to have an overtly Irish or Scottish name. I have Cornish connections though. I like Arthur but it's very popular where we live.

DH doesn't like anything too unusual or posh sounding (our two dd's have what many would consider "posh" names but it didn't seem to bother him so much with girls)

So basically we're left with dull classics, which are ok but just don't seem special enough.

How about Leo. An old, but non biblical, name, fairly mainstream without being Ed or Tom or Ben or Oliver. It is becoming increasingly popular though.

What about other names ending in x? Max / Maximilian?

Or names ending in "us" sound like Cassius, Tobias, Julius, are quite similar to Felix.

We are expecting DS2 and I too have similar dislikes so following with interest...

Jago or Piran are Cornish names. Or something not very Irish or Scottish, such as Aidan, Patrick or Lewis. Finally, how about Conrad?

PS Kai isn't really a new name - think of Sir Kay in King Arthur stories. Isn't it an Anglicised Caius?

Leo is lovely but a close friend has just had one. I love Maximilian! But we have a long and unusual surname so it might be a bit much for the poor boy! I like Max too though. Cassius and Tobias are good names too, I'll suggest to DH, though I'm sure he'll say "Cassius Clay? No" to that one.. I suggested Evander and got "Holyfield? No" Never realised what great names boxers have!

I wanted Felix but was vetoed by DH! DS is Milo.

Cameron. Very Celtic and not used very often down here. Can be shortened to Cam too when older.

Love Max. Was on my list for DS2

Sticking with the x, Alex?

I love Jago Bluechampagne! But pretty sure DH will veto as "too weird" Sad
I expect you're right about Kai although most people pronounce it "Kye" rather than Kay. Tristan (another round table knight) is apparently chavy now? Not heard of any kids called that at all but I quite like it.

I quite liked Soren if DD had been a boy. I think it's Norse for brightest star.

Love Milo lovelyweather but another close friend has one. **

Archer
when I hear Cameron I can only think of Dave unfortunately!

I like Alex and Alexander fatty similar feel to Benjamin and William which are on our list.

I like Rex and Rufus but worried they're a bit trendy and will scream "born in the early 2010's" in a few years.. Seem to be loads of Rex, Rufus, Rupert, Rafe, Rafferty and Ralph's at the moment.. But they are all lovely names.

Magnus was another I thought of too. I also like Kit, Rudy (seems different to Alfie etc) and toying with Dexter (Dex).

Angus, Cato, Gordon, Lucian, Titus, some of these are almost certainly out of DH comfort zone...

If you like Arthur how about Merlin, Lancelot or Gawain? Taking it too far? ;)
