A brother for Kaitlin?

I've posted a few times about boy names so I promise this is my last unless we've narrowed down a few and are still arguing!!!

So, what would you choose for Kaitlin's brother?

What sort of boy's names do you like OP?

I like but am unsure about for reasons as mentioned:

Tristan (too sad)
Rory (a bit popular here)
Jack (very popular!)
Jasper (but surname ends in -er so no)
Heath (but with our surname sounds very similar to Heath Ledger... Which we don't want)
Leo (popular again)
Winter (but will be a spring baby!)
Soren (dh vetoed)
Gabriel (dh vetoed)
Rowan - dh is thinking about...

Dh is very picky. He did consider all of the above as possibles, except Jasper, Sioren and Gabriel which he vetoed, and Rowan he isn't that keen on. I might choose something a little more unusual but dh doesn't want anything too weird or even possibly in any way pick able on, it's hard work! Though he had agreed with Winter, strangely. He doesn't want a Hebrew name either because he thinks people will 'make assumptions about our religion' (which I think is nonsense... And does it matter?! Anyway...)

He likes Jack, Rory, Tristan, Ethan, Dylan. I would rather something more unusual than Jack/Ethan/Rory. He has vetoed Gabriel Sad

If it helps these are girls names I like (to show my style of names):

Felicity - dh ok
Hermione - dh unsure due HP connotations, though likes the name
Oriana/Ariana - dh unsure
Leila - dh ok
Nia - dh not keen
Genevieve (Ginny) - dh ok
Briar - dh vetoed
Ottilie (Tilly) - dh vetoed
Thomasina (Tommy) - dh vetoed

Does that help at all? Ultimately we will choose one of the popular names we like if we can't think of anything, but I feel a tinge of disappointment at the moment that we can't find the perfect name.

Oh and we both like Nate and Monty but can't think of longer version we like and don't want either of the above as their full name! So picky... So difficult...!

As I expect you know, Tristan is based on a Celtic name, Drustan, which does not mean 'sad' (but something like 'riot'). The association with sadness came much later, whem people incorrectly assumed the name must be based on the Latin 'tristis' = sad. It isn't!

There is the modern Welsh version, Drystan, also the English version, Tristram, which reminds me of the old novel 'Tristram Shandy'. That's not to everyone's taste, but over the years it has made thousands - millions -of readers smile.

Agreed - trouble is a) I did Latin and its what I always think of and b) my friend has an angel baby called Tristan, so it's a little close to home.

Thanks for the info about Tristram though, I might think on it a bit more and see if it sits more comfortably.

Love your explanation florascotia! Our DS is Tristan and so many people have told me when I was pregnant that it meant "said" and how could I go for it etc. But I read about the name extensively and the meaning I found a couple of times along with "riot" was "noise". So after he had arrived and was about 2 days old we found it suited him perfectly Wink.
Good luck daholster, it's a tricky one but Tristram is lovely as well.

I would go for Jack, even though it is popular. Still a lovely name.

Kaitlin and Jack, and Kaitlin and Rory are our front runners. I just hate that I feel a bit disappointed about it!
