Love the name that my friend gave to her dog!

Dh loves the name Grace.
I really like too but it's my best friends dog's name. He doesn't mind and says it' s not something that should put us off. The dog is 4 years old so still has life in it yet!,
We have six weeks to go and are stuck on names for dd2. We don't live in England so I'm not bothered about popularity. No other Graces around here, apart from this bloody dog!
Would you use it?

I have never heard of a dog being called Grace!

Grace is a beautiful name - too lovely to be chucked in as a middle name, as many people seem to do.

How often do you see your friend and her dog? If it's a lot, I would rethink. But if you rarely see her at her house, I don't think it would matter so much.

I went to school with someone whose name was Graziella. Her family was Italian, though. But she was always called Gracey. It has the same meaning - could this be a solution?

The dog will love it and be ever so proud.

Have you mentioned it to your friend? Tbh I'd be quite happy if any of my friends used our dogs name (Poppy) as we like it
It's different to them using your child's name.

Yes I'd definitely use it if it's the name we really wanted.

DH loved a name that MiL called her dog. Our daughter was not given that name, just couldn't do it

My Nannies dog is called Josh. When Ds2 was born we called him Joshua as nothing else suited him.
Ok so it's not exactly the same name but 8 years later my family still make a massive song and dance about it saying things like "Josh, the one with 2 legs..."
Ffs.

If ypu like it use it.

This is why I refuse to give pets a "human" name (says the woman who named her son after a cat!)

Grace the Dog might be a bit put out but hopefully in time she will learn to put her peevishness aside and grow to tolerate Grace the Human's snaffling of her name.

I had the same problem a couple of years back but it doesn't bother me or my son Rover at all. Grin
