Joesph / Joseph / Joeseph ??

Probably a stupid question, I didn't even know there were alternative ways of spelling it until my husband pointed it out. Is there one 'proper' way?

NetballHoop Tue 11-Nov-14 23:25:28

Um, surely Joseph is the only way to spell it?

Joseph. It is my elder DS' name and I adore it.

CointreauVersial Tue 11-Nov-14 23:26:28

The second one. Never seen the others!

Joseph, never saw/heard of the other ways. Have seen Josef as well. Such a lovely name if you don't mind my saying so!

snice Tue 11-Nov-14 23:28:24

everyone spells it Joseph

Blueberrybaby Tue 11-Nov-14 23:29:46

It's Joseph or I have seen Josef used before but I think that tends to be a European spelling. The other 'spellings' are just mistakes!

SilverHoney Tue 11-Nov-14 23:32:27

God knows what baby name list he found the others on! Maybe they're 'trendy' new spellings...? Glad I wasn't alone in my confusion.

TsukuruTazaki Tue 11-Nov-14 23:34:51

Joseph is a lovely name

The others are absolutely horrendous

Showy Tue 11-Nov-14 23:36:43

Seriously, it's Joseph.

SilverHoney Tue 11-Nov-14 23:38:12

Not my name choice anyway. Think I'll suggest there was far too much confusion over spelling, so we're better of going with Joshua. smile

Smukogrig Tue 11-Nov-14 23:43:10

Joseph. The only way.

Joseph looks a bit faddy. I prefer J'Zeff.

I'm sure there's a Jozef at DD's school.

I'd definitely go with Joseph. Lovely name!

OhBuggeringBollocks Wed 12-Nov-14 13:26:49

Only other spelling I know is Josef - as in Stalin.

I have a Joseph. There have never been any spelling complications; he's 8.

AnnieLobeseder Wed 12-Nov-14 14:23:18

No no, it's Geocheuwa.

And Geowsev.

Both lovely names, but Joseph is the only way to spell Joseph in English, as has already been said.

The two names go well together - so maybe keep Joseph in reserve if Joshua gets a brother later on.
