Baby names

Lucas when DP is Luke?

Expecting our first baby in January and we've already picked the name Edward. I really do love DP's name though (Luke) and have said this to him several times, we both agreed we can't really call our baby the same name as him though. I love Lucas, opinions on our baby having a similar name to his dad?

Personally I think it's too close.

What other names do you like?

Edward Luke would be lovely!

I have a Luke. I also love Edward.
I would choose whichever of the three names you prefer regardless of his dad's name.

Not mad on Lucas though, there are four in DS year at school.

I think you'd be creating a world of confusion. Maybe give him Lucas as a middle name.

It sounds stupid. Sorry to be rude. It would be better to have Luke and Baby Luke, or something totally different. Edward Luke is nice.

I had ds 16 weeks ago and my dp always liked Lucas however his brother is a Luke so I always said it was to close. We never settled on boys named so when ds was born we were still debating it. Anyway we ended up with Jack Lucas as my dp liked the name so much we put it as a middle name.

We've already decided on Patrick as the middle name as it's the name of DP's late grandad. We like Lewis as well, but had our hearts set on Edward. I always thought Luke was a no go because of DP's name - I do like it though!

Maybe two middle names? I always think middle names should have a reason behind them. Edward Patrick has a lovely ring to it. Plus you will always have a Luke! My dp is a Daniel and I always liked that name. Couldn't really put as a middle name after Jack...Smile

I think it's fine!

It was always the done thing to name your first born son after their father. My grandad was Richard (known as Dick) and my uncle is Richard. I have a friend called Scott after his dad and one of hubby's colleagues is Richard with his son Richard (known as Ricky) too. I don't see anything wrong with it. Although as other posters have said Edward Luke is a lovely name. My hubby's baby cousins have 2 different versions of their father's name as their middle names

Think it's fine to have a dad and son called Luke and Lucas; not as confusing as if they were brothers. Edward is also a lovely name. May be you can save one of them in case there is ever a ds2 :).
