Imogen?

Hi everyone,

I hope this will be my last thread on girls names! I have finally narrowed down our shortlist and Imogen is one of two remaining names. I recently read on MN that its becoming a name that will get very popular and common in the worst sense of the word. I'm not trying to be controversial saying that, I personally don't know anybody called Imogen.

What do you think? If you like it or dislike it, can you please also say what other type of names you like or dislike as when I read the name threads on MN, I always wonder if the name being debated is the issue or is it that the debaters don't like the particular type of name?

Thanks to everyone in advance again!

I have 2 friends in 30s and 20s named Imogen. Don't know any small ones.
It's not my cup of tea. I just don't like the sound of the word. My 30s friend used to get teased by people pretending to be zombie mummies saying Im-uh-jun like "Im-ho-top" in The Mummy, so maybe that's why?!
I do like Felicity and Miranda, which I'd class as similar.

I like it. I know one who is 13. I don't like the nn "Immy" though.

No idea if its becoming more popular though. Without a crystal ball it's hard to tell!

I think it's lovely but it is popular around here. I know 4, ages 11, 7, 6 and 3.

It was one of our short listed names for DC1 5+ years ago (we went with another name in the end), so it's a name I'm tuned into, IYSWIM, and I haven't come across many since then.

I like it very much.

Love it, it's the name of my 3.6 year old. It's gone down in the rankings from last year iirc which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned, think its in the top 40 still if this bothers you? I know only my one but have heard it a few times in parks and shops (am in manchester).

I really love it. Sadly it makes me think of Imogen Thomas though, that tarty girl from big brother who had the fling with Giggs.

I know one. I do consider it to be a popular, middle of the road name, which is a minus point for my personal taste.

I don't dislike it though, it's a lovely name. Do dislike 'immy' though.

I love it. I know one who is 5yrs old and she's a great little girl.

I think it's a lovely name.

It is a name that is/has always been well known, and perennially faintly popular - there's always one or two within every few years at school, but never loads, iyswim.

I prefer Imo to Immy, and Ginny is better than either.

Imogen is number 37 in the top 100 baby names 2013 - have a look if you dont believe me :/ I like it.. my god daughter (who is 6) is called Imogen...

Yes it seems to be popular which I don't mind as long as its outside the top twenty really. I read on another thread that its now seen as a common name (common in not a nice way ie Katie Hopkins anti name list type of thing). I don't know anyone with this name and would also think its a middle of the road classless name but that comment bothers me more than I'd l

I love the name Imogen, and if I were to have another girl it is top of my name list.

I don't like it, I find it clunky and plain.

Which is odd, I suppose, as written down, it's very similar to my own name (the I, o and e are in the same place, they have the same number of letters, and the remaining ones are all consonants as well).

Having said that, I don't really love my own name either (which is currently also yawnsome-ly popular and 'done').

I prefer the word "popular" than "common" Its a nice name, if you like it then it really does not matter what anybody else thinks.. I think you do however care what other people think otherwise you wouldn?t be asking strangers their opinion on a name? But really if you like it that is all that counts! :) xx

I like it.

It's classy without being too prissy or posh.

The child I know is sometimes called Immi

I used to think it was classy but it has become a bit too popular now and hate the nickname Immy
