Verity or Primrose for middle name? Is Primrose too unusual?

Just what the title says really. We're having a DD and are thinking Harriet Verity or Harriet Primrose. Which is nicer? Is Primrose a bit OTT?

Harriet Prinrose is really lovely.

But then I think Verity is hideous.

Primrose! I went to school with one so it doesn't seem OTT at all.

I like Verity, but Harriet Verity has too many Is and Ts.

Primrose is foul and the name of Harold Shipman's wife.

Well, obviously, I would go for Primrose! Grin

Wonderful name.

Primrose because I love the Hunger Games!

the name of Harold Shipman's wife

I doubt that would bother many people, Rose is the name of Fred West's wife and that is very popular.

Primrose would be too much for a first name but is perfect for a middle name, and it goes beautifully with Harriet.

Harriet Primrose is gorgeous. As much as I love DD's name, I think I prefer this one!

Another vote for Primrose, I think it's a gorgeous name. I didn't know about the Shipman connection and I doubt I'm in the minority, don't pay it any heed.

Primrose is horrid and made me think Shipman too. Verity is kick-ass.

Another vote for primrose. It's different but not too out there. Wish I'd thought of it myself for my dd

I too prefer Verity because a]Primrose is so unusual that the 'famous' one who comes to mind is Harold Shipman's wife and:
b]I love the meaning of Verity which is so beautiful-truthfulness :)

I think Verity is the nicest. I quite like Primrose but not that keen on Harriet.

Report
KittenOfDoom · 01/04/2013 17:23

I thought Shipman too, but as a second name it doesn't matter so much. As OkayHazel said, Rose is so commonplace that it escapes the association.

The risk with any less-than-common name is that, at any time, someone may turn up to taint it. No one can predict what the name of the next infamous criminal will be.

Harriet Primrose is lovely.

I didn't think Harold Shipman's wife had anything to do with the murders. Or did I miss something fundamental?

I am choosing to ignore the Harold Shipman thing. I'm a fairly average Joe and had no idea that's what she was called...

Me either name I really wouldn't worry about it.

Primrose is a lovely, traditional name and, whilst not very commonly used at the moment, it's not like you are calling her Myra or something where it's pretty likely most people's minds would make a connection.

I think Primrose is a beautiful name.
