Considering Indiana

For a boy or girl. Obviously there is the immediate Jones connotations but I don't mind that. I want something a little different but not something so out there that it's ridiculous.

What do people think of the name, do you know anyone (boy or girl) called this?

I know a boy called Indiana. Known as Indy. He's a good looking boy and it suits him. AND his sir name was Jones at birth!! His parents are now married so he's got a different sir name.

The first time I heard it I thought it was a bit try hard different. But now I know the child and am mates with his mum I really like it.
As I say it suits the lad. (who is 6 by the way)

I wouldn't use it for a boy. Like naming a baby James Bond. But Indy is very pretty for a girl. But would use India rather than Indiana.

Yeah the more look at it the more it looks like a girls name. Which is annoying as I already have loads of girls names I like - am really struggling with boys names!

I know one, a girl.

Not my style at all, but I'd go for Indigo for a boy if that's your thaaaang.

The Jones thing is a big hurdle.
Have you anything else in mind, do you have any other dc, what are there names.

oscar
Jasper
blaine
jago
casper
Orlando

No DC yet - this is the first. For boys I quite like
Alexander (Xander)
Xavier
Ethan
Jackson.

Girls I like
Isabella (but I know it's v popular)
Eva
Mia
Emmeline (Emmy)
Aurelia (maybe too fancy)

But nothing has totally GOT me, you know?

We considered it as it's a cool name but not seriously as it would be laughed at in our social set up.

I think you should go for it Smile

It was on our shortlist for ds 1 who's now 7. I still really like it

"The dog's name was Indiana."
"You were named after the DOG?"
"I have a lot of fond memories of that dog."

Grin Love Indiana Jones!

I do actually like the name but I think that only certain children/adults could carry it off.

It is/was my DH's and my absolute favourite name for a girl but he's a Jones and just couldn't do that to a child! I live it, you should go for it! Such a cool name.

Isn't there a porn film called InDiana Jones?

or is that an urban myth?

I'm still really liking it and fortunately our surname isn't Jones so we don't have that to worry about! I think it's always going to spilt people but it's definitely going on the list.

We liked Indiana and Indigo for a boy, but just went with Indy in the end.

Well you could push the boat out with Nevada or Dakota...!

We actually like Dakota too! Not considered Nevada but I could be tempted :)

I love it! We were considering this as a middle name for our DC1 but she was a girl!! Still up the sleeve if we ever get a boy though...Yes there's the 'Jones' thing but who cares about that, Indiana Jones is hardly a bad connotation for a boy is it and by the time he's a teenager his generation wont even remember the films. Go for it I say. Indy for short is lovely for a girl or boy.
